Fantasy Injuries with Stephania Bell

Stephania Bell
  (11:59 AM)

Happy Friday gang! Just wrapped up FFNowFriday in the studio but now here to take your q. I bet I know what the biggest one of the day is...

Britt (Hawaii)

Gronk! Gronk! Gronk! Is this going to turn into one of those he-doesn't-end-up-playing-at-all-this-year situations?

Stephania Bell
  (12:02 PM)

Britt: No. At least I don't think so. I think he could even end up playing this weekend. Right now, very fluid. Sounds like there needs to be a meeting of the minds and then a decision. of course if there is something underlying that is bad, that either hasn't been announced or hasn't been discovered then everything goes out the window. But based on the activity he's been doing so far, it would be hard to see a shutdown happening.

Dan (Not a Gronk question!)

Do you think Cecil Shorts will play this week?

Stephania Bell
  (12:03 PM)

Dan: Yes. Based on what Bradley said yesterday, they expect him on the field.

Brendan (NJ)

Does the fantasy starter status of Stafford ride with Calvin's knee this week? My other option would be Alex Smith.

Stephania Bell
  (12:04 PM)

Brendan: I think it does. And Cleveland's D. I don't know that I'm replacing him with Smith though. Still going to dump off some passes to Reggie and there will still be throws. But don't expect the typical Stafford performance.

Nash (Michigan)

The odds of Megatron playing against the Browns this weekend? Also Stephania any updates on Jonathan Stewart?

Stephania Bell
  (12:08 PM)

Nash: So this could come down to gametime again for Megatron. He did limited work (very limited THurs, a little less so today)and will probably be listed as q again. Prob depends how knee looks/feels in warmups. As fa as Stewart, sounds like he hopes to be ready to go by Week 7 or 8. Hope to have more info early ext week.

Stephen (Louisiana)

A. Morris limited by his rib injury?

Stephania Bell
  (12:08 PM)

Stephen: DOn't think so. Full practices every day, says he feels fine.

Drew (Houston)

What's the scoop on Andre Johnson's shin injury? Is it more than a deep bruise?

Stephania Bell
  (12:10 PM)

Drew: Not that we're hearing. A contusion in that area can be problematic in terms of persistent swelling/pain. They're trying to balance managing that with letting him play. Not easy, slow to resolve but the hope is he'll play again.

Charles (NY)

more to the David wilson situation than we thought?

Stephania Bell
  (12:12 PM)

Charles: Disc-related, which can mean a huge variety of presentations. Consulting with Dr. Watkins Monday. Surgery would end season but might not need it at this juncture and then could return within weeks. Wait and see mode.

Corey (On the Bench)

What is the latest with McFadden? Say he practiced some on Thurs, it this just a ploy by the Raiders and he has no intention of playing??

Stephania Bell
  (12:13 PM)

Corey: Not a ploy. Has done some limited work all week and looks like he could play this Sunday.

Rick (Philly)

Amendola look ok to you running last week? Good to go now?

Stephania Bell
  (12:15 PM)

Rick: Amendola looked decent but still not at full bore. THere is the chance that he could still have some ups and downs in the recovery process so need to be aware of that. But it was a good first outing, expect they integrate him progressively more as tolerated.

Bob (Toledo)

Stephania: I just picked up Harvin and Vereen off waivers. I know it's all guess work at this point but what week would you expect to see them playing? Thanks!

Stephania Bell
  (12:18 PM)

Bob: WIth Vereen, the good thing is that it was his wrist so he's been able to maintain his lower extremity conditioning. Once he's cleared as far as the wrist (and can grip the ball without risk of fumbling, there's little to no worry of re-injury), then he's back. I think his first eligible week is 10(?) and could see him then.Harvin way less predictable. Has not resumed practicing with the team and they are going to be cautious with his return. No reason for them to press him into service when they want him for the late season. I do not see him returning for at least the next two to three weeks, prob November is my guess.

Nate (NJ)

Is there legitimate reason to be concerned about Foster this week? Is it worth a roster spot to pick up Tate at this point?

Stephania Bell
  (12:19 PM)

Nate: Not worried about Foster this week. But I would definitely pick up Tate. Good to have him if you're a FOster owner.

Stephania do you think Steven Ridley plays?

Stephania Bell
  (12:21 PM)

Jeff: Think there's a decent chance. At least he's practicing this week, even though limited. If all continues well through today, think he does.

EJ (Charlotte)

Should owners be concerned about blisters and J.Charles? Could he miss PT this year? Thanks

Stephania Bell
  (12:23 PM)

EJ: See, I see the initials PT and I think you're asking if Charles will miss physical therapy. Which, of course, he should not. But I'm guessing you mean playing time. He didn't miss last week so I presume the treatment is helping him through this and don't anticipate him missing time.

Jason (Miami)

How's Zac Stacy? Any of the other STL RBs banged up right now?

Stephania Bell
  (12:24 PM)

Jason: Expected to play. He got a day off early in the week but he's been back working.

Bryan (Montclair, NJ)

Ryan Matthews' status for Monday? I didn't play Jacobs last night in the hope that Matthews would be available.

Stephania Bell
  (12:26 PM)

Bryan: You rolled the dice. He wasn't practicing as of yesterday and with concussions it's a very stepwise progression. No rushing it and while he has the extra day to recover, there's no guarantee he'll move through all the phases by then. We should get a better idea of whether he'll get clearance by the weekend so you could perhaps plug someone else in Sunday.

Jane K (The vast wasteland of Arizona)

Is it time to give up on Roddy White this year? He's been taking up valuable bench space the entire season.

Stephania Bell
  (12:28 PM)

Jane: This is tough. We thought he'd start to turn a corner by a month after the injury, then we hear he has a setback, then he pulls a hamstring in their last game and there's no guarantee the bye week is enough to put it all behind him. Yet he's so valuable when healthy. If you've held on this long, I think you wait and keep him for what you get in the second half (and that's when another player on your roster can get hurt).

Stephania Bell
  (12:31 PM)

Devin: All caps always feels like someone is yelling. The prevailing opinion is that Austin will play. Yes, cuts into T Williams targets but long term Williams may be the better stash. Need proof that Austin can perform well without re-injury.

Brian (VA)

Hi Stephania. How about Ray Rice and his hip?

Stephania Bell
  (12:32 PM)

Brian: Hi! Apparently has put the issue behind him. May still be working back to full strength but last week was a pretty good display. It's on the back burner at the very least.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

*whispering* Is there anything to report on Colin Kaepernick? Heard a possible foot issue?

Stephania Bell
  (12:33 PM)

Scott: Thank you :) Yes, there have been reports of him dealing with a minor foot issue but it's not keeping him from practicing or playing. Not much to see there.

Greg (Ft Lauderdale)

Hi Stephania. Any concerns on Blair Walsh listed as Questionable? Never good to see your kicker with a leg problem off a bye week. Thanks!

Stephania Bell
  (12:35 PM)

Greg: He just tweaked it in practice yesterday. It's his plant leg and right now it sounds like the team still expects him to play, although I'd feel better if I heard he did something today in wokouts.

Pete (NY)

At this point is 6-8 weeks just a guess on EJ Manuel's return? Fred Jackson only missed 2 games with an LCL tear last season. Will the time table for return depend on how long it takes for swelling to reduce and how he responds to treatment?

Stephania Bell
  (12:36 PM)

Pete: I'm sure the estimate has something to do with what they know about the severity. But you're right about how timetable is influenced. And they need to make sure there's no instability on the outside back corner before he returns or it could set him up for further injury.

Question about Questionable (Orlando)

Hate last minute decisions so even IF Gronk is cleared soon start J.Thomas instead week 6?

Stephania Bell
  (12:38 PM)

If I had J Thomas, that's who I would start regardless. I think if you have Gronk and you're waiting to see what happens, the decision to play him comes down to your options. If I've got a top 10-12 TE, I'm using him over Gronk and waiting a week.

Karen (NJ)

any news about how long cromartie might be out?

Stephania Bell
  (12:40 PM)

Karen: So far, I've heard it was a hyperextended knee (less serious than feared) but his status for this week is uncertain. So we don't have much clarity but they haven't actually ruled him out for this week yet.

sad guy (alone)

Hey there starphania, enjoyed you on the podcast all week. how is CJ spiller looking: full go? does submitting my questions zillions of times help in getting it answered?

Stephania Bell
  (12:41 PM)

Zillions of times? No. But I did feel badly that you're sad. Spiller is still on the injury report and I don't think we know until we see him just how good his ankle is. Probably still favor Fred Jackson and his utilization over CJ.

Jeremy (Denver)

Hi Stephania,How is Steven Jackson doing? Is he worth obtaining in a trade for Chris Johnson?

Stephania Bell
  (12:42 PM)

Jeremy: Word is, much better. He was close to playing last week but they thought it best to rest him through the bye. Probably wise. I'd trade CJ for him.

Stephania Bell
  (12:44 PM)

Have to run everyone. A lot of you asking about AP. Keep him in your thoughts. Don't know any more just yet.Best of luck in Week 6!
