Fantasy Sports with Eric Karabell

Eric Karabell
  (11:01 AM)

Hello all and welcome to the latest fantasy sports chat session! We're heading into Week 7 for football and I'm guessing there are many, many questions about lineups and trades and whatever! So, thanks for showing up to read live or the transcript later and let's get going!

Chaz (GA)

I have both Witten and Cameron and need to trade one for a WR - which should I keep?

Eric Karabell
  (11:02 AM)

I would keep Witten, personally. I think Cameron might outscore him this season, but trades are about value, and certainly Cameron with his great start has more value and should draw more in trade. And I still trust Witten. He should destroy the Eagles Sunday.

Dylan (Scranton, PA)

Eric, need help man. What should I be getting back in a trade for Wes Welker? Need RB help. Thanks!

Eric Karabell
  (11:03 AM)

At this point there are probably only seven or eight running backs I'd consider trading a top, reliable WR like Welker for. Good luck with getting someone to part with one!

1-5 (Basement)

Eric....would you consider starting Nick Foles over Brady this week? My squad is currenlty 1-5 and its do or die time. Help!

Eric Karabell
  (11:04 AM)

I'm not sure why your record should have any bearing on who you start at QB. I think Brady is the better option, though Foles is hardly a bad option. Each week, regardless of your record, play the best options. If you had Jay Cutler, for example, yeah, I play him over Brady this week. But that's whether I'm 5-1 or 1-5. Doesn't matter.

mike (Ma)

I cant get on the same page as Cam Newton. When hes great I sit him and when hes terrible I play him. I traded for Luck last week and Cam has a great game! Should I go with Luck or Cam ROS

Eric Karabell
  (11:04 AM)

I'd go on matchups, but mainly on Newton. But you really don't need 2 top-10 QBs. Trade one!

Charles (NY)

Keenan Allen for real? Big game for him vs Jags?

Eric Karabell
  (11:05 AM)

Yeah, he's for real, and the matchup is nice, but I feel like people will be expecting 16 fantasy points each week. Not realistic. Borderline top 20 WR for me this week and close to that moving ahead.

chris (work)

Would it be crazy to play Timothy Wright over Kyle Rudolph to replace Jimmy Graham this week?? Rudolph just isnt that great!

Eric Karabell
  (11:06 AM)

Crazy, no. But Rudolph comes off a nice game, so it could be construed as a bit of a reach. But do we know which of these guys will score more than 5 fantasy points? Of course not. Go with your gut and hope for the best.

Alex (ATL)

Strong at RB, but weak at WR. If I could trade Spiller for Nelson, Djax, or Wayne in .5 ppr, who would you choose and why?

Eric Karabell
  (11:07 AM)

I'd probably more Spiller for any of those guys at this point. Jackson first, then Nelson.

Brian (Chicago)

Evaluate the following trade:Aaron Rodgers and Josh Gordon for Russell Wilson and Ray Rice...fair deal?

Eric Karabell
  (11:07 AM)

Well, I'll take the Rodgers/Gordon side there quite easily. Rice is only a top-10 RB at this point because I can't find 10 running backs I like better. Gordon is legit.

John (NYC)

Yesterday you were advocating holding onto Randall Cobb - was that before the IR news? Droppable in a 12-teamer? Thanks EK.

Eric Karabell
  (11:08 AM)

I just think he can help a team in December, and the IR news does not change that. He could return by then. But if you need the roster spot just to get to the playoffs, then sure, in a shallow league I'd move on. He is droppable, but I am trying to avoid it. And I had Cobb on multiple teams. Not much you can do about it.

Jim (Raleigh,NC)

Hold David Wilson or drop for Ellington or Stacy in PPR-thanks.

Eric Karabell
  (11:09 AM)

I think at this point I'd drop Wilson for both of those fellows. We don't know when or if Wilson returns, he was playing poorly and both Ellington and Stacy have upside and are doing well.

Mike (Michigan)

What are your thoughts on Aaron Rodgers ROS? Is the emergence of Lacy and the running game along with the 2 injured receivers enough to consider benching Rodgers some weeks depending on match up (i.e. Cleveland?)

Eric Karabell
  (11:10 AM)

Indeed, but I have Rodgers at 6 this week, so that's still starter material. I can't see him leaving my top 10. This is not like the Matt Ryan situation. Rodgers has weapons still, and the running back emerging does not hurt him. Opens things up.

Corey (The Office)

Hi Eric, Sitting at .500 I decided to make something happen, I traded away McFadden and Antonio Brown and got Ray Rice. Was this a smart move?

Eric Karabell
  (11:11 AM)

Well, little late to ask now! I think it's fine, but again, I don't expect Rice to just turn his season around soon. Will have a few big games but more in single digits. I just don't trust McFadden one bit.

daisy (@work)

Thx EK! Standard league, who would u rather have ROS: alshon jefferey or denarius moore?

Eric Karabell
  (11:12 AM)

Jeffery. I think it's funny that he will end up active in more leagues in Week 6 than Week 7, all because he didn't have a big game last week. People are so reactive! I like Moore too, but Jeffery still has a nice NFC East schedule...

Chris (Colorado)

Bye week QB thoughts...Roll the dice on Freeman starting or start a rookie Glennon, or just pick up Flacco?

Eric Karabell
  (11:13 AM)

It's not 100 percent that Freeman starts, but if he does, I'd use him. He ranks similarly to me as Flacco. I would not rely on a rookie. Freeman might get picked off a few times, but he should get the yards and a few scores, too. He's really not as bad as the Bucs appear to think, but then again, that situation is not normal.

Ned (Philadelphia) [via mobile]

Celek, Fleener, or Clay as bye week fill in for Jimmy Graham? Eagles fans tend to avoid Eagles...

Eric Karabell
  (11:13 AM)

As an Eagles fan I would take Fleener! Should have had a good game last week, but dropped a few.

Jack (TN)

Do you put the slow start of Fitz on his poor QB play, his age or his lack of working hamstrings?

Eric Karabell
  (11:14 AM)

Looked fine in Week 6 on that long touchdown pass. But I blame both. He's not a kid, and Palmer's arm looks borderline shot.

Ruben (Puerto Rico)

Hey Eric! Any news on Amendola. Should I drop him for Keenan Allen?

Eric Karabell
  (11:14 AM)

I don't think Amendola plays this week, so yeah, feel free to move on. The guy can't stay healthy. Period. Comparisons to Welker are ridiculous.

Nate (NJ)

As an Eagles fan do you prefer Vick or Foles ?

Eric Karabell
  (11:15 AM)

Teddy Bridgewater. But Eagles aren't getting him. I think Vick gives better chance to win games now, when 100 percent healthy. But he's not. But I'd also be surprised if Foles lit up Dallas... not that kind of QB, despite his performances against the Bucs the past two seasons.

Chris (Columbus)

Who is the odd man out with these tasty match ups? T.Y. Hilton vs Denver, Calvin Johnson hurting vs Cinci, Keenan Allen vs Jax, and Vincent Jackson vs Atl? Right now im leaning towards sitting Calvin only because of low snap count.

Eric Karabell
  (11:16 AM)

I'd play Calvin over Keenan. I'd play Calvin over all of them, really.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Peyton Hillis just signed with the G-Men! Anything to see here..I mean, they seem to love old, bruising, over-the-hill RBs...

Eric Karabell
  (11:16 AM)

Pathetic. But if you're gonna give Brandon Jacobs 20 carries, then giving Hillis some at this point really isn't that much worse. No, I doubt there's fantasy relevance here.

MS (Virginia)

Is it crazy to consider trading Peyton Manning this year? I'm devastated at RB (David Wilson, DMC, Trent Richardson). And I have Andrew Luck on my bench. I suspect I could get a Top 5 RB and another player by dealing Manning. Foolish?

Eric Karabell
  (11:18 AM)

Smart. Manning is not going to keep up this pace. In fact, he's got the Chiefs twice in a three-week span after the bye, with the Patriots in between. Might not rank as our top QB in that stretch. Yes. Move him if the return is great, which it should be. It's not like your backup is Blaine Gabbert, either.

Mike (Boston)

Similar Manning question - can we assume he'd be benched if they clinch early? Should I move Manning for a Romo type - someone who will be playing in the late weeks of Fantasy Playoffs?

Eric Karabell
  (11:18 AM)

That seems like overthinking to me. Perhaps Manning sits in Week 17, but you know there's another 6-0 team and they play in the same division. This is an angle not worth exploring or making trades for.

KLM (Miami)

Any news on Steven Jackson? Do you expect him back in the next couple of week, and, if so, how big an impact will that have on Rodgers' fantasy value?

Eric Karabell
  (11:20 AM)

He'll destroy Jacquizz's value, but for those wondering about overall value, I ranked Jackson just outside my top 20 for rest of season. So I don't assume he's going to be awesome. Frankly, while everyone else ranked him 10th or so back in August, I had him 15th, and thought that was generous. It's not always about 30-year-old running backs slowing down, but they get hurt and don't recover as quickly. Tons of evidence there.

Tom (Chicago)

Drop David Wilson and pick up Andre Brown? It seems they will both be out the same time frame.

Eric Karabell
  (11:21 AM)

No, I don't think we have a time frame on Wilson yet. Could be back in a week. Brown we know is Week 11, at earliest.

Scott (NY)

The Chiefs defense has been amazing. Can I count on starting them even against the Broncos in a few weeks?

Eric Karabell
  (11:21 AM)

I think so. I doubt the Chiefs are going to give up 50 points to any offense.

Dave (Brighton)

This may sound odd, but would you ever trade for a D? I have the K.C D and was curious what, if anything, I should expect in return?

Eric Karabell
  (11:23 AM)

I have never traded for a defense. Perhaps one was thrown into a trade, but I didn't target it. Too much uncertainty. But that said now is a glorious time to see if someone in your league will trade for the Chiefs D, seeing as they currently rank FIFTH in overall scoring among all players, which is ridiculous. Defenses never finish among the top 30. And they have Denver twice. Move 'em now!

Anthony (KC)

Hey Eric. 6 weeks of Jordy Nelson or 5 weeks of Brandon Marshall in a .5 PPR?

Eric Karabell
  (11:23 AM)

I will take Marshall.

Jack (TN)

Do I drop D. Wilson for Hillis?

Eric Karabell
  (11:23 AM)

I don't.

CT (MN)

I cannot figure out what if anything to do with the SPILL-JACK RB mess in BUF. Early predictions on who disappoints this week?

Eric Karabell
  (11:24 AM)

I'd say both are likely to disappoint. I'm avoiding.

david (ca)

oh jeez, now you have my trade Peyton wheels turning, 6 pnt/td and .5 pnt/comp league. what type of return? for Shady straight up?

Eric Karabell
  (11:24 AM)

Of course.

PA (DC)

Percy Harvin have any trade value? Maybe to someone desperate at wr?

Eric Karabell
  (11:25 AM)

If I owned Harvin I would try to move him now before the reports of a delayed return surface. Because he's not playing this week. Probably not in October at all. Can't possibly know what someone might deal for him, though. Try!

Zach (STL)

Is it worth dropping Cincy's D or should I just grin and bear this week's bad matchup?

Eric Karabell
  (11:25 AM)

I stream defenses quite a bit, so see what's out there. Other than KC and Seattle, no defense is a must own.

Joe (Richmond)

is there any way to tell which WR in STL is going to be used? Is A Pettis worth starting in a 14 team league?

Eric Karabell
  (11:26 AM)

I doubt Sam Bradford knows. But it sure seems like he likes Pettis the best. Austin was clearly overrated by fantasy owners. I did think Givens would be better than this, though. Huge talent.

Brett (FL)

Thoughts on Witten ROS? I know the Cowboys have the easiest schedule for the rest of the year, will Witten's production be more consistent?

Eric Karabell
  (11:27 AM)

Yes. This is the last week to acquire him on the relative cheap. Always produces. And look at this division!

Gene (NYC)

Help! I've been stashing both Vereen and Andre Brown but need to drop one - who should I drop? 0.5ppr

Eric Karabell
  (11:27 AM)

I'd rather own Vereen. What makes anyone think a Giants RB will all of a sudden be valuable on a consistent basis?

Ryan (Hamilton)

Is Eddie Lacy a RB1 going forward?

Eric Karabell
  (11:29 AM)

Close. I ranked him eighth this week, but moving forward he's not in my top 10 yet. But could see him catching Rice, Morris, Moreno at some point.

Devin (Tampa)

Would you play Fitz on a short week and vs Seattle or Keenan Allen? I am not expecting 16pt games, but Fitz scares me this week.

Eric Karabell
  (11:29 AM)

Then go with Allen. Nothing wrong with his matchup this week! I ranked Fitz a bit better, but I can see the love for Allen.

Jorg e(Mia) [via mobile]

Do you see Megatron turning things around relatively soon?

Eric Karabell
  (11:30 AM)

Yes, this doesn't feel like the Roddy White situation. But top WR? Not totally on board there.

Nate (NJ)

Freeman hurt or help AP?

Eric Karabell
  (11:31 AM)

Helps more than hurts. At least there's a downfield threat. That's why I like Freeman; Peterson still gets tons of attention. Ponder wasn't throwing 40 yards downfield. Freeman can do that easily.

James (Boston)

Is it legit to add an IR spot at this point in the season? It is a 12 team keeper league and guys with Julio and Cobb want to stash them away for next year.

Eric Karabell
  (11:31 AM)

No. No changes in-season. Ever. They have to be bench guys.

Will (Detroit)

Can we expect anything from Garrett Graham this week or is last week's sleeper darling already old news?

Eric Karabell
  (11:31 AM)

It was one week. I'm going to give him a bit more rope than that!

Nic (San Jose)

You were right about Vincent Jackson when you answered my question last week, let's try again. Vincent Jackson a sell high?

Eric Karabell
  (11:32 AM)

I don't think so. He's been a consistent, reliable guy for a long time, and Rivers and Freeman certainly weren't playing well for some of it. He can overcome a rookie QB and be a top-20 WR for sure.

Mike(Mn) [via mobile]

Will Dwayne Bowe ever be a decent WR option with Alex Smith at qb? Or do I need to start Terrance Williams or Kembrell Thompkins instead?

Eric Karabell
  (11:33 AM)

I don't think it's all Smith's fault. Blame Bowe, too. None of these guys is reliable enough to start each week. Play matchups. This week I choose Bowe, but could easily be convinced to avoid him.

Mario (LA)

TRADE - Calvin Johnson for Julius Thomas and Harry Douglas? (I have A. Jeffrey and AJ Green at WR too)

Eric Karabell
  (11:34 AM)

Wow. Calvin side. Easily.

Peter (Baltimore)

Looking to next year. Would you keep Moreno as a 9th round pick or trade him for an extra 3rd round pick next year?

Eric Karabell
  (11:34 AM)

Deal him.

Ltrain (Golden, Co)

Eric: With Matthew Berry and Harris coming out with books, cam we expect one from you? What's your hobby?

Eric Karabell
  (11:35 AM)

Chicken Parm.

John (Philly)

I have a sneaky suspicion that Dobson will be Brady's go to guy this weekend. Thoughts?

Eric Karabell
  (11:35 AM)

Hmmm, sneaky eh? Honestly, if you think Brady knows...

Chris (North Carolina)

Is Colston droppable for the likes of Allen/Ellington/Harvin?

Eric Karabell
  (11:35 AM)

No, that seems a bit extreme considering his history and his QB.

James (Chicago)

Can you provide some insight on why you ranked Russell Wilson above Nick Foles this week? Thanks.

Eric Karabell
  (11:36 AM)

I don't think Foles is all that. He had a great game against a winless team. Wasn't so great last season...

Tom (Bath)

Thoughts on Thompkins and or Hilton as replacements for Cobb over the next few weeks? Whom do you prefer?

Eric Karabell
  (11:36 AM)

I don't think Kenbrell is in the same class as TY yet.

Jake (Bobcat Country)

Can you envision any Vikings WR becoming top 20 with Freeman?

Eric Karabell
  (11:37 AM)

I think Jennings is about to become a lot more relevant, but top 20 is asking a lot. I don't think people realize Freeman is not bad. Yeah, he throws picks, but they don't count against the WRs. Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams were really productive in 2012.

Rob (Pa)

Eric, thought on dealing Woodhead for Chris Johnson (standard)

Eric Karabell
  (11:37 AM)

Definitely.

Casey (NY)

Owner in my league is about to have major bye issues - both RBs next week and 3 WRs the following. May be able to get either Foster or Forte for McFadden and Garcon. Which of his two backs do you think I should target?

Eric Karabell
  (11:38 AM)

That owner should just give up on the week rather than trade a top-5 RB for less than value. Kinda silly. But target Foster. Wow.

Matt (VA)

Freeman certainly looked bad the first few weeks of the season. Pick 2 for this week: Moreno, Lacy, DeSean Jackson.

Eric Karabell
  (11:39 AM)

I think we have plenty of tape on Freeman and shouldn't judge an 0-6 team on a few games... And Moreno and Lacy.

Dan (Houston)

You obviously haven't been paying attention to how bad Calvin Johnson has been. Every week he has been under targeted and now has an injury which makes him useless. Why are you ranking him in your top 10 when he doesn't practice all week?

Eric Karabell
  (11:40 AM)

Well, obviously I am not paying attention. I think you should drop him!

Sean (Colorado)

I saw you post a couple weeks ago regarding kickers. just thought I would let you know I am running my league without kickers this year and it's awesome. Don't need no misplaced soccer player deciding games. Try it!!!!

Eric Karabell
  (11:40 AM)

I'm on board with that!

Alex (Indy)

Hi Eric. What are your thoughts on Boykin as a WR2 or flex play this week in a PPR league?

Eric Karabell
  (11:41 AM)

Wouldn't shock me if he gets 10 targets, but really hard to rely on him in fantasy. I ranked him 46th. I mean, he's a risk.

James (Chicago)

I don't think Foles is all that either, but you don't think Foles can take advantage of his matchup this week enough to overcome his "not-all-that"-ness?

Eric Karabell
  (11:42 AM)

I think he can, definitely. But I also think 14 other QBs can score more points. Hey, if you've got Foles, use him. You don't need my recommendation! I don't see issue with using him over Russell Wilson or Kaepernick or even Brady. I'm just not doing so.

Mitch (Dallas)

Do you see any type of resurgence for Doug Martin? Top 10 RB at the very least?

Eric Karabell
  (11:43 AM)

Perhaps, but the team is a mess and it's a rookie QB. Lot of touches, but not a lot of big plays.

Paulie Walnuts (Pine Barrens)

I won this trade right? Got Ridley and Wayne and gave Leveon Bell and Denarius Moore.

Eric Karabell
  (11:43 AM)

Yes. If that's important to you. I don't care about winning trades, care about winning leagues.

Nate (Minneapolis)

Would Foles be a good play in ESPN's awesome Player Elimination Challenge? Seriously, that game is pretty sweet.

Eric Karabell
  (11:43 AM)

So I've heard!

Nathan (CT)

having a rough day so i hope you answer my Q - Would you trade L Bell for Vincent Jackson? i still have ellington, stacy, wilson, and vereen as my other rbs

Eric Karabell
  (11:44 AM)

Can't say I love the RB situation, so unless your WR situation is worse, I'd keep Bell.

Rob (Milwaukee)

How excited are you about fantasy basketball??

Eric Karabell
  (11:46 AM)

I can't begin to describe the excitement. But I did draft a pretty good squad last week, and have another slow draft on now. The kid from Utah, the power forward... go get him!

John (LA)

Is trading Woodhead and getting Spiller in a PPR league a "winning league" type move you would do?

Eric Karabell
  (11:46 AM)

Well, it's the type of move you make if you need more of a home run threat. Like if you're 2-4 and scoring 50 points per week... Spiller has a lot more statistical upside, should he find it.

Preston (NY)

Is this year the biggest dichotomy between ppr and non-ppr RB rankings ever? Who could actually start CJ2K or Mojo over Woodhead or Ellington in PPR leagues?

Eric Karabell
  (11:47 AM)

Yeah but it's basically Sproles, Woodhead and Ellington and that's it among the RBs... perhaps Ogbonnaya.. point is that every season a few RBs emerge as PPR options, but don't get many rushing attempts.

Mike (Shutdown City)

"I don't care about winning trades, care about winning leagues." You are a jerk. Obviously if you win a trade the assumption is you are bettering your team and increasing the chances of winning your league.

Eric Karabell
  (11:49 AM)

Really? You own Peyton and acquire Rodgers to go with him, giving up a kicker. Did you win the trade? Yep. Did you win the league? Didn't help or hurt your chances. Please.

Pete (Utah)

Do I drop Bowe to pick up Boykin?

Eric Karabell
  (11:49 AM)

No.

Mike (San Diego)

Well, Reggie Bush is pretty nice in PPR leagues. I'd say he may be a top 5 play in those leagues.

Eric Karabell
  (11:50 AM)

He's top 10 in standard formats, too. Point is Ellington and Woodhead are just average - Sproles, too - in standard.

Brendan (NJ)

EK you come off as arrogant... fix that.

Eric Karabell
  (11:51 AM)

Not even close. But please phrase in the form of a question next time...

Ben (San Antonio)

Ellington or ridley this week? PPR

Eric Karabell
  (11:51 AM)

Even with Ellington getting 5 receptions, it's still Ridley.

George(NJ) [via mobile]

With Cecil looking to be out this week, who's my PPR Flex? Heath Miller, Lamar Miller or Joique?

Eric Karabell
  (11:51 AM)

Lamar Miller. Nothing wrong with him.

Bob (Tampa, FL)

Likelihood that Trent Richardson gets double-digit fantasy points in a game this season (assuming that he's not on my bench)?

Eric Karabell
  (11:53 AM)

He's not as good as most thought, but he's not that bad, either. Should have a few games with touchdowns. I just don't see a guy on his way to multiple 100-yard games. He looks slow.

Pablo (Santa Fe)

I like the honesty. Can you rank for ROS of Spiller, Stacy, Wilson and Pierce? Thanks

Eric Karabell
  (11:54 AM)

Probably in that order. I think Spiller is capable of being really good. Hopefully this is the week. Stacy remains raw, but has upside for top 20. Wilson... I hope he returns this month. Pierce has shown nothing.

Mark (Detroit)

Cameron's lack of TD's and production the past two weeks more a result of schedule or Weeden?

Eric Karabell
  (11:54 AM)

Both. But Cameron saw enough targets in Week 6. Kind of a buy low option now.

Matt (MPLS)

How do I politely go to commish and tell him to kick a guy out of the league next year? He is 0-6, already selling off players, and last week started D Wilson when he wasn't playing, so he is barely checking his team. But this guy is friends with the commish. Thanks.

Eric Karabell
  (11:55 AM)

Sounds like you need to find another league. But then again, don't worry about other teams. If your team is good enough and gets the December luck, it won't matter.

Kosh (B5)

Watch T-Rich tape and watch Jacobs tape. Not much difference. Just saying.

Eric Karabell
  (11:56 AM)

I see the point. It's not THAT bad, but let's just say Richardson does not look like a top-10 RB.

Jeff (Dallas)

How do you feel about an owner being able to veto a trade in a league? I am the commissioner of the league and i have an owner trying to block a trade of anquan boldin for Jared Cook

Eric Karabell
  (11:57 AM)

That's why allowing people to veto trades rarely works. Veto collusive trades/situations, but even though I'd obviously prefer Boldin to Cook, it's not collusive.

Matt (Harrisburg)

A team is 1-5 and trying to sell players for draft picks in next years draft, and looking for the best keepers. Nothing wrong with this, right? His might be pretty crappy the rest of the year, but he'll definitely still be active.

Eric Karabell
  (11:57 AM)

I've done it myself. It happens, and it's legal. People need to cool off!

Marty (Iowa)

Quickly before we run out of time. Ridley or Stacy?

Eric Karabell
  (11:58 AM)

Ridley

Mike (Philly) [via mobile]

Reed or Heath Miller ROS?

Eric Karabell
  (11:58 AM)

Miller

TOC (NYC)

Durham or Boykins, deep league.

Eric Karabell
  (11:59 AM)

Durham

Luke (6-0)

Who should i Start? Harry Douglas, Marlon Brown, or Vincent Brown?

Eric Karabell
  (11:59 AM)

Harry

Mark (KC)

Ertz, Reed or Wright this week?

Eric Karabell
  (11:59 AM)

Reed

Gary (CT)

K Allen or T Williams ROS?

Eric Karabell
  (12:00 PM)

Allen

Eric Karabell
  (12:01 PM)

Well, that is all the time we've got for today's chat session. I thank everyone for the thousands of questions - all kinds of questions! - and would like to remind people we're supposed to be having fun here! But whatever! Anyway, thanks for the attention and support and best of luck in Week 7 and beyond!
