We'll get rolling in a sec. Keep sending in your questions and comments.
Where do you rank me and Lache as heisman contenders?
I put Petty ahead of Lache. Problem is, the two are splitting the Baylor vote. The Bears also haven't had a national spotlight game yet. So both are kinda gliding under the radar, even though both are putting up monster numbers.
Do you think Baylor is as good as Oregon? I've heard a lot of speculation over it and have seen some pretty good conversations between the two teams fans. What is your thoughts?
Hard to make the argument that Baylor is better than Oregon at the moment. Oregon is hammering better competition.
Mr. Trotter, I'm digging your blog & coverage of the Big 12! Keep up the good work! Ok, so the question I have for you, do you think there is molecule chance for a Texas Tech vs. Mizzou matchup for the National Championship game? Thank you, A Red Raider lost in CA.... Chester
Thanks, Chester. Jim Carey had a better chance of getting that girl in Dumb and Dumber... but there's always a chance.
If Baylor and Tech were to play this week, who do you think would win and what would be the score?
I would pick Baylor. They have been the more impressive team. However, there's something to be said for winning games in the 4th quarter, which Tech has proven it can do.
Which player from the Big12 do you see having the best chance to win the Heisman trophy?
Petty, then Seastrunk.
How manny Texas fans do you expect to be at the Tcu game this Saturday.
10,000 at least.
QUESTION TO JAKE TROTTER AT 12.30 PM RED RAIDERS OR SOONERS
Check the blog on Thursday for my picks.
Any chance OU shows and competes with TT this week?
Competes? Sooners are an 8-point favorite.
How many points does Baylor score at KU this week?
Kansas fans would rather I didn't answer this.
What needs to happen for Gameday to be in Arlington on November 16? Two undefeated teams?
Why is OU favored by 7 over Texas Tech this weekend? What do the bookies see that I certainly don't- a sure fire loss, if even Kansas with ~20 dismissed players can run up the gut of the OU d-line?
I don't know, Matt. I thought that line was strange, too.
Vegas is clearly off the rails with that one. They are looking at helmets and not game film..
And Kris is an OU fan.
If Baylor faced another offense capable of matching its big points potential (A&M or Oregon, for example) do you think the Bears' defense has settled in enough to make the necessary stops for the offense to win the game? Was the strong defensive showing against Iowa State a sign of things to come, or just another beat down on an inferior team?
It was a good sign, but let's face it, Baylor has not faced a viable offense yet. Then again, there aren't many viable offenses in the Big 12.
What is wrong with TCU? Besides the obvious lack of scoring, what is the problem with the offense? Been a pretty disappointing year.
QB turns the ball over. Offensive line is below average. No No. 1 WR. WR corps as a whole pretty mediocre. Put all that together, and you get TCU's offense.
Jake, do you think that the Oklahoma State offense improves with Chelf playing? Do you see Rennie Childs receiving more carries?
Yes, I think it could. Especially if they still keep the Walsh package as part of the arsenal. If Childs doesn't start getting more carries, something is very wrong with the OSU offensive staff.
What odds do you give WVU getting 3 more wins and being bowl eligible? They have played a very tough schedule so far.
I mentioned this in the power ranks. WV has already faced Baylor, OU, OSU and Tech -- 4 of the top 5 teams in the league. They get Texas in Morgantown, too. If they win this weekend in Manhattan, I think they definitely get to a bowl game.
Do you see the Sooners being able to win the Big12?
Don't find it likely. But you can't count a team that finds a way to be in the mix seemingly every year.
Name the player you would want in these positions. QB, RB, WR, OL, DL, LB, DB, ST.
Petty, Seastrunk, Goodley, Richardson, Hyder, Lavey, Verrett, Stewart
What is your conference rankings as of now?
Runs every Monday on the Big 12 blog.
What will need to happen for Baylor to have a shot at going to the BCS National Championship?
Florida State and Oregon need to lose. Oh, and Baylor needs to win out.
Thank God the BCS is done after this year. If we had an 8 team playoff, the 5 major conference champs + 3 at large would get rid of all this mess like worrying why Baylor is ranked 5th, yet a 1-loss Stanford is ahead of them in the BCS. I thought there was a fairly significant 'penalty' for a loss, especially to an UNRANKED opponent.
Baylor hasn't beaten a ranked team yet. What did you expect?
Jake, OSU is currently 5-1 but still have to play the top half of the league. Given the way the pokes have struggled offensively, whats the possibility of a 6-6 season for the cowboys?
Pretty unlikely. OSU is struggling offensively, but the defense is solid and they have Josh Stewart. I see this as a 9-3 type team. Maybe 8-4.
My favorite Stoopsism of the year so far was his halftime analysis thant his defense was so bad againsthe run because the backers were out of positon. Its hard to hold your ground when your d-linemen are being pushed backwards 5 yards....
I saw the same thing you did.
Odds Art Briles leaves at the end of the yaer?
Less than 50 percent.
What does the Big XII do in the case of a 3 or 3+ tie for 1st?
Head to head, then BCS rank.
What do my horns have to do to be the clear cut choice for top recruits in Texas again? I'm tired of seeing A&M get all the best talent. What will it take?
Winning more than 8 games a year.
Jake, Lifelong Baylor fan here, should I be rooting for Tech or OU this weekend to win? Which team winning would be more advantageous for our schedule? Thanks!
Tech. Sets up that Nov. 16 showdown between 2 Top 10 teams.
I assume you meant Lackey not Lavey as the LB you would take. :)
Lackey is right there, too.
Who wins tonights game?
Is someone playing tonight?
is Jace Amaro the best te in ccountry
Haven't seen one better.
Any chance for a medical redshirt from Corey Nelson or Jordan Phillips
Doubtful for Nelson. Not sure with Phillips.
Should I win the Mackey award?
If Chase Coffman won it as a flex tight end, I don't see why you shouldn't.
Best NFL prospect in the Big XII that most of us outside the conference don't know about yet?
Justin Gilbert has the tools to be a big-time NFL corner.
What are the odds of Baylor winning out?
If you gave them a 75 percent chance on average to win each remaining game, that would still only be an 18 percent chance to run the table.
Lets take a moment to be real. I'm a Red Raider through and through but does Tech actually deserve #10? Lots of people had to lose for that to happen and, if we're being completely honest, Tech really hasn't beaten anyone to write home about. 7-0 is fun though.
Sure, Tech deserves it. But they'll have to really earn it to stay there.
If Tech wins 9 or more games this year, is kliff a coach of the year candidate? nationally or within the conference
Kliff or Briles.
WVU's offense is finally starting to show some signs of life (compared to the first couple games), but now the defense is dying off. If WVU can get both the offense and defense clicking at the same time, do you think they can win out?DISCLAIMER: I know it is a big IF.
Win out is asking a lot, but I could see a 4-1 finish.
Texas Tech has a realistic shot to beat OU this weekend. If you're the coach, what are you keys to 8-0 for Texas Tech?
No turnovers (Tech has been poor on TO margin), no special teams TDs (Tech has been shaky on special teams). Avoid both of those, and Tech will be in the game in the fourth quarter. Then it comes down to Webb making more plays than Bell, which I would feel good about as a Tech fan.
Do you ever get confused for Mark Schlabach? Because you look a lot like him.
What do you think is up with OSU RB Jeremy Smith this season? It seems to be his worst season at OSU.
Too much dancing. If you watch film of the old Jeremy Smith, he just runs over people. The pressure of being the No. 1 back has messed with his head.
Yes, Arkansas State and Louisana Lafayette play tonight.....
Gimme LL then
If Baylor and Ohio State win out and go undefeated, what are the chances they could meet in the Rose Bowl if Oregon goes to the Chamionship game. Would they take an undefeated matchup over a two loss Standford or UCLA?
The Rose Bowl is going to take Stanford or UCLA in that scenario. Baylor would go to the Fiesta.
We had a Jaz Reynolds citing this weekend in Lawrence. Any chance he and fellow senior Roy Finch receive more opportunities down the stretch to add some explosiveness to the OU offense?
Reynolds has been on the field for awhile now. The Finch sighting was encouraging. With Keith Ford's fumbilitus, I would feature Finch this weekend. He's the best big-play back they have, of course that's been the case for 4 years now.
IF Tech wins this weekend by at least 10 point, will there still be doubts?
I like the confidence.
With the new system coming. How important is it for teams to be smart with scheduling? It seems that strength of schdule is getting ready to be a big topic. Your thoughts?
That's why you see all these big non-conf games getting scheduled. Next year just in the Big 12, non-conf opponents will include Auburn, Alabama, Florida State, Tennessee, Arkansas (I'm probably forgetting other marquee games, too).
There's no doubt that OU's secondary is elite while their rush defense doesn't compare. Will Kenny Williams/DeAndre Washington have to be the difference makers if Tech wants to win this weekend?
I don't know if I'd call the OU secondary elite. It's good. But an elite secondary doesn't get burned by Case McCoy. As for the rush defense it's pretty bad. Expect to see a lot of Kenny Williams this weekend. He's tech's best between the tackles RB.
Well, Im about ready to give up on my sooners. Our defense sucks without Cory Nelson, we have no passing game. Is there any hope for my beloved sooners, or should I start getting ready for next year?
There's hope for a Big 12 title, sure. Win this weekend, and you have a shot to lock up the league in Waco.
What is your conference rankings as of now? To me it seems like the Big12 rose while the sec took a BIG hit.
SEC, ACC, Pac-12, Big 12, Big Ten.
Hi Jake, in case you did not hear, Yellow Jackets beat Generals on saturday? who do you think should be top 5 candidates to replace Mack Brown if Longhorns new AD chooses to go in that direction - while performance of horns has lagged in last few years, Mack Brown is a class act.
Randolph-Macon is always a thorn in our side... Briles, Shaw, Strong are the top three names I hear. If they wanted to get a coordinator, they'd pursue either Chad Morris or Kirby Smart.
I am tired of listening to these obnoxious Baylor fans. Yeah they are doing good but do they really need to be talking about a NC? I enjoy being the dark horse but a little praise this way would be nice. Who would have thought that TT would be this good?
Here we go again...
If Saban goes to Texas, what would have to be done to change the Texas fight song to the the Imperial March from Star Wars?
I think that should be part of the deal.
Did you enjoy your trip to Morgantown?
Yes. It's just a chore to get there. Flight out of Minneapolis was delayed 5 hours. Didn't get to my hotel room til 2:30 a.m. Then had to be up at 8 to get to the game. I love Morgantown itself, though.
Is KSU getting ready to go on a run? They seem better than their record.
They are. But to get to a bowl game, they have to win this weekend.
Baylor has as much of a chance to play in the NC game as the Texans do to win the SB this year. 0
People complaining about obnoxious BAYLOR fans. What on earthi is happeing? I am suddenly worried about hoards of locusts when I go outside..
VEGAS is usually pretty spot on. and we all know what happened last time tech came to Norman undefeated...
I think that's part of the equation. Anytime Tech has come to Norman with something on the line, they have gotten completely obliterated.
Ayone who thinks OU can win the conference after what we have seen the last two weeks needs a saliva test..
What matchups in the tech/ou game favor each team? Also, do you see Knight playing at all?
Tech has the better passing game. OU has the better run game. Neither defense is great stopping the run. Both are pretty good in coverage. OU has the major edge in special teams. And no, I don't see Knight playing, unless things go bad in a big way for OU early.
You keep saying texas will go after Briles, Smart, blah blah. Why do you not mention Saban?? It's obvious that's who their first choice would be.
Just trying to be realistic.
When is OU going to give Kendal a shot. Knight didnt cut it, Bell has the happiest feet I've ever seen. Sad the best pass all year has been from Bester. Why not see if Kendal can do something different?
If Bell really struggles this weekend, that's a possibility.
Scary thought, do you see the Texas Tech QB's leaving the team after this year to start somewhere else?
Brewer would be the most likely. It's hard to keep 3 QBs, as OKST found out in the spring.
Jake, had there been any confirmation that the NCAA is going to investigate OSU based on the SI story and if there hasn't been, do you think the NCAA is going to look in to the matter at all?
OSU hired an out-of-house investigator to look at the allegations (most of which were 10-plus years old). There might be some minor self-imposed penalties. But I don't think it's going to be a big deal.
Briles hates Texas from his days at Houston. There is zero chance he goes there and i doubt he would even be offered
If Baylor and Texas A&M were to play head to head at a neutral field who wins? I know Johnny Football would be a big factor, but can Baylor's offense tear the Aggie defense up enough to come out with a win?
Interesting question. I might give Baylor the edge in that one.
Will Mizzou and A&M's relative success make teams more likely to leave the Big 12? Now they see that you can transform from also-ran to conference title contender as soon as you skip Big12 town.
No one else is really in a position to leave, except for OU and Texas. And neither has shown the desire recently to leave.
What is the likelihood that Baylor and Tech meet undefeated in several weeks?
Tech has to beat OU and OSU. Baylor has to beat OU. Possible. Not likely.
Who is your top 3 OFF/DEF players of the Big12?
1. Petty, 2. Seastrunk, 3. Amaro; 1. Verrett, 2. Hyder, 3. Jeffcoat.
Better basektball player between you, Chatmon and Olson? Olson seems like a scrapper down low not afraid to mix it up
I smoke both of them.
You say if Bell struggles, when has he not struggled. Also, word on the Cali kids?
No word lately.
Is this the game that Iowa St pulls off the shocker? Ok St is struggling offensively...
I don't think this will be the one.
Is the league better with West Virginia and TCU instead of ATM and Mizzou?
You tell me.
When you wrap up the chat? With all the Tech fans on here, my pizza delivery is late.
Would an undefeated Big 12 team be able to contend for the national title ahead of a one loss SEC or PAC 12?
Would depend. If Stanford beat Oregon and ran the table, they would be a problem. Same if Alabama lost this weekend, then obliterated everyone else.
Dear Baylor fans,I find your demeanor objectionable. I demand that you cease your shenanigans at once! Sincerely, Ye Olde Tech Fan.
If Texas doesn't lose another game, is Brown safe?
Not safe. But that would lead to an interesting conversation the brass would have to have.
Does the recent success of ATM and Mizzou who were middle of the packl Big XII teams mean the SEC is not as good as we are led to believe?
A&M is a different program with Manziel and Sumlin. Hard to compare.
Since OU didn't hang 50 on the Jayhawks, is there significant improvement?
Kansas Jayhawks -- best first quarter team in college football.
Baylor vs Missouri for the BCS title game, sounds crazy, but it COULD happen. As we have seen this year, parity is among the college ranks. All it takes is one bad game.
Sure, it could happen.
Im as big of a Tech as they get. What should i tell my friends who have unrealistic expectations and get mad when we dont quite live up to them?
Show them the YouTube video of the '08 Oklahoma-Tech game.
If you had to pick one of the Tech QBs going forward and the other two will transfer, who do you choose?
I'd go with Webb.
Who has a bigger impact in Saturdays game, Jace Amaro or the Tech defense?
11 players > 1 player.
Here is an interesting question. Regardless of the outcome, who had/has the better chance of beating OU in Norman? The 2008 Texas Tech team or this years Texas Tech team.
That '08 team was not losing in Norman. So I'd probably go with this game.
do you think texas tech has a chance at the big 12 title?
Sure, why not?
It seems that if Baylor wins out there is a very strong chance that they could end up playing Fresno State or N. Illinois in the bowl game, which means that Baylor probably won't ever get a chance to "prove" themselves against a "good" team. Go BCS!
Too early to worry about that.
How do you stop OU's offense?
Load up on the run and force Bell to try and beat you deep.
If all of the Big 12 mascots got into a fight in real life which one would win?
The mascots with the guns.
If there are multiple undefeated teams at the end of the bowl season do you see any possibility of a split champion
Will we see the diamond formation OU used vs texas. If they would have just kept running plays from that formation, OU would have won the game. Seems like Huepel got to cute when he should just use what works and forget stats.
I really like the way that option looked against Kansas. I would run more of that with Millard and Finch in the backfield.
OU is #1 in the country in passing defense, and TTU passes 80% of the time. Is the line really that much of a surprise?
Who has the best unis in the conference?
I like Texas and OU whites, OSU's black helmets, Baylor's green helmets, Tech in all black, K State's road unis, West Virginia's old schools
NOW having said that, AS AN OU FAN, I think TT pulls it out 31-30OUs #1 passing D I a little smoke and mirrors. When teams can run on you AT WILL, you better not have a bunch of passing yards against you
Are your serious Adam? You stop OU's offense by fielding 11..any 11.. Maybe 10 if you got a stud..
When will the Big XII realize that Iowa State and Kansas can't get it done in football consistently and work to increase the conferences football footprint? I even fear that you are about to see TCU fall into the dumpster and KSU once Snyder leaves.
Fine, who is still out there worth getting?
Wouldn't the Big 12 bringing in UCF and perhaps another East coast team make sense for the league for exposure, especially with UCF up and coming in football and basketball, and recruiting? Maybe this could help offset the loss of TAMU to the SEC.
The travel would be a killer, especially for the minor sports.
Jake, do you think if Texas Tech can pull out a win at OU in Norman, they will come into Cowboys Stadium undeafeted to play Baylor?
Sure. All they would have to do would next is beat OSU is Lubbock.
Vegas doesn't "look at helmets." They look at what makes them the most money. You think there's anything to my theory that Vegas likes OU at home due to Tech's offense not lending itself to a power/heavy running style that Texas and Kansas both used?
Part of it, sure.
Most overrated and underrated teams in the Big 12 so far this year?
Overrated: TCU; Underrated: Tech
Is the light ever going to come on for Metroyer?
You obviously haven't been paying attention to the headlines lately.
Are their any ongoing discussions you are aware of to renew KU/MU and UT/ATM rivalries with an annual noncom game? If not, when do you expect the talks to resume?
KU-Mizzou will happen before UT-A&M.
Why are my froggies so bad? We were so good before we came into this conf?! Golly gee!
Terrible, terrible offense.
Apparently news travels slowly to the West Coast...
If coach Patterson wore velcro shoes would he be less stressed during the games? He always yells at me?
I think Kris and I need a long vacation
Maybe Patterson could tag along, too.
Whose got the best D in the conference?
Why has KState been a dud this season?
Bad fourth quarter team.
do you see the conference ever returning to its position as the 1st or 2nd best?
Not with 10 teams.
Guys, that's all the time we've got for the chat today. Thanks for all the questions. If you didn't get your question in, send it to the mailbag, and it could get answered there. Chat returns next Tuesday, same time, same place. Until then everyone have a great week.
