Good afternoon everyone...Hope things are good in your corner of the world and let's get this partaaayyy started!
QUESTION TO MARK THE GURU GARROW at 3.30 whO wins martiville sundeay
If you're betting against Jimmie Johnson Ray Gordon I would urge you to change your mind.
Can gordon win the chase being 34 points behind
It's possible...but he's not likely to gain on Johnson at Martinsville..so I think he needs JJ to come back to the pack at Texas and bring him into contention with two races to go.
Who do you think will win the Goody's 500 at Martinsville?
Here is why Jimmie Johnson is the favorite...The driver of the Lowes Chevrolet has conquered the flat, half-mile track eight times, including the last two races. Last fall, he led nearly 200 laps on the way to victory lane and this spring 346 of the 500 laps. Amazingly, he has run 25 races at Martinsville with 16 top5s, 20 top10s, and his average finish is 5.3. After a DNF in his very first outing in 2002 his worst finishes in the last 24 starts are 11th and 12th with everything else ninth or better.
hi-guru were did Larson come frm b4 nationwide cause the 1st time he was at Bristol he & kyle in nationwide had a good duel 4 the win do you see any chance at all he would be a better option thn 47 or 10
John most of Larson's race experience has been in sprint cars...he's a great little driver but most of the time Martinsville eats up rookies. He did test for this race, though, so we'll need to keep an eye on him and really check his deal out for our race day chat session.
The 88 been so close at Martinsville so many times. Can he do it this week?
Shane...I think Dale Jr. is doing some of the best driving of his career right now, but going in I look at him as a potential top-10, but not a threat to win..We'll have to wait and see how he looks long run in practice Saturday.
Guru... Hope you are having a Great Wednesday... Two espn teams this week... team a) 48-18-1-11-27... Team B) 20-24-15-31-11... Appreciate your thoughts...
To be honest Mike I don't like either of them...27 has done nothing at Martinsville really in the past...on the second team Kenseth is not that great on this half mile track...
What Race at Martinsville was the Hendricks Plane Crashed which Killed over 100 People?
That was in the fall of 2004...Ironically, Jimmie Johnson won the race to it was truly a day of tradegy and triumph for Rick Hendrick. He had remained home in Charlotte and only ten people were killed.
hi-mark is the 47 hurt still or sore[ribs] cause he has good stats at this track or would 10 be a better option?thnx
John, Bobby isn't fully healed but he's to a point the ribs are not a factor inside the car. At 13.1 he's certainly attractive enough if you're confident he can finish at least top-20 with a top-10 like last fall a major bonus...Saturday practice will tell the tale.
hi-guru which team you like better 48-20 or 18-24-39-10 or 47//or 24-39-48-[up 2 a 22.8 & who would you take at 22.8 or less]-13
John, Greg Biffle 22.0 has been top-10 the last two races at Martinsville...I also have my suspicions after testing there recently Kurt Busch is going to be very tough..Jamie McMurray is potential top-10 too in my opinion.
Howdy Mark, Talking Fantasy Cup, going in I have the 20, 29, 48, 24, 22, 78, 39 and 11. Until they qualify I'm thinking of trading the 20, 78 and 22 FOR the 18, 1 and a 2! I also sent a e-mail to ESPN encouraging them to continue these chats next year. Please keep all of us NASCAR fantasy "Nuts" informed as to where we can find you on the internet next year. Any chance PRN will "Fill The Bill"? Thanks to you and the other "Chatters" for putting up with me and my nonsense. I still do believe that the original game "Fantasy Cup" is the way to go. It is a lot tougher to pick 8 drivers than 5. I'll be on line Sunday. Later, Bill
Bill that trade might end up the best thing to do, 20 for 18 no brainer...78 for the 2..good trade...1 for the 22 probably the right thing to do as well..but let practice and qualifying play out before you pull the trigger...Again..not sure what my plans are for next season..PRN is not an option so we'll just have to wait and see...Thanks for the props.
Mark, Talladega was well a bit odd, especially the finish, going from 3 wide racing to single file and no moves really being made. Was a mixed bag of results as well. Anyways for Martinsville this week my prelims are for Y!: 48-18-88-55 and ESPN: 48-24-15-11-14. On Y! it's my last start for the 48 or should I save him for PHX and use the 24 in his place? Using my one of my 2 remaining starts left with the 88 and 18 or possibly use the 39 or 1 in one of their spots? Especially with how good the 18 is at Texas and PHX. Also Mark are you for sure not doing the chats next year for ESPN? That would stink big time. Leave all us chat heads an email to keep in touch and say what a great job you do.
Nick, I'd use the 48 at Martinsville where he's usually an automatic potential winner..not so sure about the 55. Vickers drove it to an 11th place finish in the spring, but Elliott Sadler driving it this weekend and he's done next to nothing in the past at Martinsville...Like the ESPN team but question Mark Martin...since taking over for Tony Stewart hasn't done much in that car..It's possible he'll be okay at Martinsville, but I'm going to have to see it to believe it. As for Yahoo again 39 and 1 are potential top-10 material..18 is potential top-5..88 potential top-10..you could use the 39 and 1 I think and not get hurt too badly by that.
I have to pick one driver every week and can only use each driver twice throughout the year. Best drivers I have left are the 18, 20, 99 and 2. I was thinking 18 at the Paperclip, 20 at Texas, 99 at Phoenix and the 2 at Homestead. Your thoughts? Should I change anything there? Or should I roll the dice with Hamlin this week and then use the 18, 20 and 99? The 11 scares me this year though. Thanks for your help.
Paul, I think you've picked wisely...Hamlin should be good at Martinsville but we'll just have to wait and see. Plus, I need to make sure they are not using an experimental engine again like last week at Talladega.
Guru - how do you think Elliot Sadler will run this week? Thanks, again!
Not sure...his record at Martinsville is ugly, but Michael Waltrip Racing has had good cars there recently. He's certainly a major question mark going into the weekend.
One of hamlin's best tracks. Does he do anything this weekend?
I think he does, but want to see how comfortable he is and what his long run speed is on Saturday before jumping on the 11 bandwagon. He could probably run fast laps at Martinsville in his sleep, but the second half of this season has been a total disaster so that gives me cause to hesitate.
Guru, looking so far for this weekend 48-20-5-56-11 show me the money?
Don't think so Dave..20 is trade bait...I might trade him for the 24 and then see what options that might open up for you.
Good time to put in my pre-race top-30 so here it is....1.Jimmie Johnson2.Jeff Gordon3.Clint Bowyer4.Kyle Busch5.Brad Keselowski6.Denny Hamlin7.Kasey Kahne8.Dale Earnhardt, Jr.9.Kevin Harvick10.Jamie McMurray11.Greg Biffle12.Ryan Newman13.Matt Kenseth14.Marcos Ambrose15.Kurt Busch16.Carl Edwards17.Aric Almirola18.Jeff Burton19.Martin Truex, Jr. 20.Joey Logano21.Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.22.Danica Patrick23.Paul Menard24.Juan Pablo Montoya25.Elliott Sadler26.Bobby Labonte27.David Ragan28.David Gilliland29.Casey Mears30.Kyle Larson
So it was this Race at Martinsville where Hendricks Plane Crashed?
Yes, in 2004.
48-18-5-56-11 any thoughts?
Dean I would put the 24 in for the 5 first and see how much cap space that would cause you to lose..then I'd put the 39 in for the 56 and see what you can do..or you could trade 18 for the 24 and that would really give you some room to manuever..that might be the better way to go.
who will win the world series the red sox or cardinals
Red Sox baby!...without a doubt. From my lips to Big Papi's ears..lol
Does Harvick need a top 5 finish to stay in the hunt to contend on tracks that are more suited for him in Texas and Phoenix
I think he does. Even though he's won at Martinsville, his overall record there is not so great. So, he's got to come up big Sunday and the fact they tested at Martinsville should really help.
Hullo, Guru! Say - in his 3 races at Martinsville, Aric Amirola has 1 top 5, 2 top 10's, and 3 top 20's - for an average finish of 10.7. Does he seem like a good lower-price pick this week? How do you think losing Todd Parrott will affect him & his team? Thank, as always!
I think Almirola could be a decent dark-horse for a top-10 pick this weekend. Hard to say how much Parrott's departure will mean there's really no way of knowing that. He was 22nd at Talladega, but that car was already prepped by Parrott. Martinsville car was also probably already done, but this week will be more of a true indication.
Will Sadler in the 55 get your low buck fantasy vote for Martinsville?
At this point no because his past stats at Martinsville are not very good and he hasn't run there since 2010 on top of that.
Dega killed me Guru to the tune of only 90pts!! I'm hoping to rebound with 48, 24, 2, 78 and 55 (Sadler) What do you think ole wise one??
Again, Kevin at this point I'm no fan yet of the 55..if Vickers was in it I'd say yes, but with Sadler - waiting and watching. Might end up liking 39 better than the 78 too..Other three should be very tough.
Guru - which ONE of the remaining tracks do you think Carl Edwards will do best at? He usually is excellent at Homestead, if I recall correctly, but he has been hard to read this year! Also, which ONE remaining track do you think will be Kyle's best? Thanks, again.
Kyle should be very tough in all four of the remaining races especially Texas and Phoenix...Edwards should be best at Texas and Homestead but lets not forget he led 122 laps on the way to winning at Phoenix earlier this year.
Hi Mark! I have a Fat Cat here at the trucks with your name on it! Last week, I asked you if JJ's missed win at Charlotte would cost him. You wrote that if he came out of Talledega unwrecked, then he would be in command going forward. Not only did he come out safely, but he took the points lead away from the #20. How do things look now? Does the #20 have a realistic chance? or will the #48 seperate himself on Sunday? Thanks as always!
First Chris, I'd like to see my picture on the "Fat Cat"...lol....secondly yes Kenseth is still in it..however if he finishes 12th at Martinsville like he did in the spring and Jimmie wins like he did in the spring..then that is going to spell real trouble for the 20 team and anyone else.
How do you think that Danica Patrick will do in the Goody's Headache Relief 500 at Martinsville? Do you think that she will Repeat her Performance as the Spring Race?
Tough to say...She had a tremendous performance in April...started 32nd...then spun on lap 17 and still scrambled back to finish 12th..We'll find out if that was a fluke or not on Sunday...but she looked pretty sharp for the first time out at a place that usually isn't kind to any driver the first time or two around.
Mark, just read the comment. Your not going to be at PRN next year? That stinks. Was wondering if there was any truth to the rumor that during that whole MWR mess that Bowyer and 5-Hour Energy put feelers to other teams for next year? If so any idea who?
No, I'm going to be with PRN not ESPN. Bowyer and 5-Hour energy are back with MWR next season for sure...Bowyer put out some feelers when it looked like they might be going away, but stopped the calls once the sponsor said they were returning.
ok, thanks. How about 48-24-78-5-11
Dave that feels a lot better...and given how practice and qualifying go might think about trading 78 for the 39..Keep an eye on that one.
Mark 1, 20, 17, 27, 88 at martinsville? 20 alright despite the crash?
Kenseth is okay after the crash at Texas yesterday..but I would completely rethink your Martinsville team. 20 is definite trade bait and I'm not that high going in on the 17 as well. I'd take a look at my pre-race top-30 and rework from there.
Ah gotcha. Well that's good to here. I have 2 starts left with Stenhouse in Yahoo. Bayne and Sadler are also on C list. Thinking of going w/Stenhouse at PHX and Homestead and then Bayne at Texas. How's that sound?
Sounds like a good way to use those two drivers...Sadler may be an option but we'll have to wait and see.
last one..... 48-24-2-39-11
Dave, I like that one the best..all five are at least top-10 potential...48,24,and 2 could run top-5..of course 48 could win third in a row at Martinsville and ninth overall.
What has been the hold up with RCR and the Austin Dillion announcement?
I think they were waiting for the best place to do it...it would get a lot of media play in Texas.
Now that Smoke isnt in the 14... Has Chevy made that a test car like Toyota has with the 11
No, I don't think so...the Stewart-Haas team may be doing a little experimenting with the 14 but not to the point they should be finishing this poorly on a regular basis.
Who will be Running for Rookie of the Year in the Sprint Cup Series in 2014?
Austin Dillon and Kyle Larson.
Thanks everyone for joining in today...Remember we'll do it again race day morning from Martinsville...We'll be "on the air" at 10:30 eastern after we get a chance to chat with the crew chiefs. Until then have a great week...Sad to say but must "The Guru has left the building!"
It was the most logical reason as to why i could put mark Martin running so bad... Does that hurt Mark for getting a ride next year with how bad he has been in the 14 this year
Just saw this so will answer...Has age finally caught up with Mark? Maybe..and he doesn't want a ride next season. He'll be around to fill in here and there if needed, but he doesn't want even a part-time deal at this time.
That's it for now...talk to you again Sunday.
