Fantasy NFL with KC Joyner

KC Joyner
  (4:01 PM)

Good afternoon! Let's talk some fantasy football!

Matt (Steinway)

KC! What's your favorite Christmas movie? For me, nothing can top Die Hard. Yippie-ki-ya, [explative deleted]! Since I am out of the playoffs and I really miss your non-fantasy chat, what do you think the Broncos can do to improve their defense, specifically on third downs? I feel like every time I watch them they get an opponent in to third and long, let them convert, and they march right down the field after that.

KC Joyner
  (4:04 PM)

Funny you should say that, as Die Hard is my favorite Christmas movie. I've tried to make it a Christmas tradition around here but have a bit of pushback from Mrs. Scientist - she likes the movie but isn't quite yet on board with making it a holiday tradition. Regarding the non-fantasy chats, those will be starting up as soon as the fantasy season ends. Broncos could use their offense to protect their defense.

B Mand (Sarasota, FL)

Every ranking list I've seen has these 3 ranked close, so who do you like: Campbell, Fitzpatrick, or Flacco? Thanks.

KC Joyner
  (4:05 PM)

Tough call. Campbell's matchup looks to be the most favorable, so he'd be the pick.

Miggy (Philly)

Hey KC! QB conundrum. Stafford got me here (mostly). I have Rivers and Rodgers on my bench and Cousins and Dalton are avaulable. Do I try to take advantage of Minny or Dallas horrendous pass D. Or roll with Stafford and his get well game at the Giants. Thanks for the help, all season, and hopefully today!

KC Joyner
  (4:06 PM)

Hey, glad to have been able to help! If Rodgers plays, he'd be the pick but if not, do like Bum Phillips said and dance with who brung ya - start Stafford.

John McClane (Saving the world)

The last movie wasn't up to par with the rest, but can't beat the series as a whole. Do you lean Cutler or Cam and then Fitzpatrick or Luck?

KC Joyner
  (4:08 PM)

Haven't seen the last two - still a stickler for tradition. Cutler because of his receivers. Tough call on the other two, would say Fitzpatrick because his matchup is a bit more favorable (not liking a road game at Kansas City even if their secondary has struggled).

AJ (Minny)

I know kicker questions are lame but Vinateri saved by butt three times this season. I don' t like him in wk 16 though and weather can be a factor. Thoughts on a replacement for wk 16? J Tucker or Novak?

KC Joyner
  (4:10 PM)

Tucker - he was, to borrow a name, Justin Credible against Detroit. And Baltimore's offense could give him a lot of scoring chances against a fairly suspect NE defense.

Man Hands (opening your non twist-off beer)

here, i'll get. it for you...KC, miami or kc def this week? also, fitz or cutler at qb?

KC Joyner
  (4:11 PM)

Uh, thanks? Miami D - they have coverage issues but Buffalo isn't exactly a dominant passing attack. Cutler - he's got the best WR tandem in the NFL.

Casey Downing (Des Moines, Iowa )

Hey KC! Is it getting too cute considering starting Cousins over Foles? Also need one between Todman, Andre Brown, Dennis Johnson? Thanks sir!

KC Joyner
  (4:14 PM)

Hey, Casey! Yeah, it's too cute. Got to start Foles against a Chicago D that has proven to be very suspect this year. Philly may run the ball a ton but they aren't going to forget to throw and Foles should score 17 or more. Tough call at RB, would say Brown even though the Detroit run D has been really stout at times this year.

Heathr (maui)

Considering starting (both flex) Todman (assuming MJD out) over Gio and Dennis Johnson over Moreno PPR. Todman based on touches alone Johnson based on Denver sitting Moreno after Denver getting up big early. Could you bring yourself to make either or both moves? THX

KC Joyner
  (4:15 PM)

Could be talked into Todman over Gio but still have Gio rated higher. Really like Johnson's ability but have found it to be a low percentage play to assume a team will get out to huge lead. Go with Moreno over Johnson.

DL (Chicago)

KC, is it getting too cute to, like... comb my hair real nice and put on a flattering sweater? Maybe trim the beard? Also - Romo or Big Ben?

KC Joyner
  (4:18 PM)

Hey, I'm all for casual (I haven't shaved in like three days) but when it comes to big events at this time of year, take the extra time to comb your hair and dress the part. At least to make the good first impression before going back to casual. Romo - he'll make some mistakes but the Washington D has too many coverage liabilities to not start a QB facing them.

Rich (LI)

Mr Joyner, need a sneaky TE pick up because of Cameron. Not many players left on waiver. Who do you think?

KC Joyner
  (4:19 PM)

How about Zach Miller? Arizona has given up a lot of points to opposing tight ends this year. Not sure if he's available as a waiver pick but if so, he's got some upside potential.

You'll shoot your eye out!! (Tongue stuck to a frozen pole)

My favorite Christmas movie by far. How bout you? And as for fantasy I have some nice matchup plays for this week and need help choosing the best. Dennis Johnson, Bobby Rainey or Jordan Todman (Assuming MJD is out) thanks in advance KC! Love your chats!

KC Joyner
  (4:20 PM)

Haven't seen that movie in ages - might have to put that on the Christmas family viewing list. Kids are big Home Alone fans as well. Todman if MJD is out, Rainey if not.

Adam (CA)

Rivets or Dalton for the championship. Weather supposed to be rainy in CIN.

KC Joyner
  (4:22 PM)

As bad as the Vikings secondary is, the Raiders secondary is actually probably just as suspect. Got Rivers rated a bit higher than Dalton because of that and the weather factor could move him even higher.

WelcomeToThePartyPal! (Houston)

ok, pick 9...kidding...right now playing Gordon/Jefferey/ABrown as my WRs and Flex..would you sit any of them and Flex Todman? my RBs are Gio and Fjax...

KC Joyner
  (4:24 PM)

The cop's reaction when that body hits the windshield is priceless, even if the scene is completely unbelievable. And thanks for not asking about picking 9 players - those questions actually come through more often than might be thought and they are all but impossible to answer in this format. Wouldn't sit any of those WRs. Would start Todman over FJax.

Ron Burgandy (New York)

Great Odin's raven KC, the season's almost over! Garcon or CJ2K in flex this week? Miami D or Cincy?

KC Joyner
  (4:27 PM)

That it is! But this could be one of the best sets of Week 16-17 match ups we've seen in a long time, at least from a perspective of how many games could impact the postseason participants/seedings. Good way to end the season. Tough calls, would say Garcon over CJ and Miami over Cincy.

Rick (Irvine)

KC... championship decision.... Need a TE... been rolling with whatever Bennet gives me after Reed went down, but thinking about starting Griffin if Graham and Daniels are both declared out... My thinking is Schaub loves his TE's and they are going to have to throw against Denver... Am I over thinking it?

KC Joyner
  (4:29 PM)

Eagles have been tough against tight ends this year and Denver has been suspect, so it isn't quite overthinking it. Having said that, after last week, it seems it might be a good time to target Philly's D and it is usually a good idea to start a starter over a backup. Dance with who brung ya and start Bennett.

Travis (IN)

Is it just me, or is everyone overreacting on Brees' matchup this week? I mean c'mon, are you really gonna throw out Andy dalton or Russell Wilson in your lineup for the championship game? Over Brees! No way! I would hate myself if I roll with one of the other options and have to watch Brees go for 4TD and 350yds on my BENCH...Car is good DEF but its an awful matchup to face a Saints team that has the personel to exploit Car weakness

KC Joyner
  (4:31 PM)

Brees racked up 28 fantasy points the last time he faced New Orleans. The Saints may be a different team on the road but Brees has scored 19 points in three of his last four road games. No way to bench him in place of someone like Dalton or Wilson (and no disrespect to those two).

Roman Reigns-deer (The Shield)

Non ppr need 2 : Gore,Lacy, stacy,L.Bell or Bush?

KC Joyner
  (4:32 PM)

Now that's a creative name! He's about to get a present of a huge push from the WWE. Gore and Bell because they have the most favorable match ups.

Hans Gruber (Nakatomi Plaza )

"I'm going to count to three, there will not be a four. Give me the code." saw ranks, Afraid of Brees factor and yardage & pts counts...Would you still play CAR DST or CLE or DEN?

KC Joyner
  (4:34 PM)

He did tell the truth - there wasn't a four. Would go with the Browns D, as Carolina is a risk for reasons stated earlier. Not sold on the Denver D, as it could give up a big play or two.

Lane (Kukuihaele, Hi)

If you're in the championship game of your fantasy league because you stuck with one QB or started QBs based on matchup then I suggest you continue with what got you there. Agree?

KC Joyner
  (4:35 PM)

Could not agree more. And since I have you here, it seems like an apt time to tell the chatters Lane's team is one of the two to make the finals of the KC Joyner ESPN chatter's league (otherwise known as the Fezzik league). He's in the title game against the Pitt Ruggers. Well done, Lane!

Hans Gruber (Nakatomi Plaza )

Thanks Bubby

KC Joyner
  (4:36 PM)

Yippee kay yay...

Michael (Philly)

Any fear of the Eagles sitting their starters if the Cowboys win? I can start Cam or Foles? Also need two WRs out of Roddy, Wallace, Steve Smith and Crabtree. Wyatt Family or The Shield? Merry Christmas.

KC Joyner
  (4:39 PM)

Wouldn't be too concerned about that, as the team is going to have a game plan set up to play their players for the entire contest. Would start Foles over Cam. Would start Crabtree (who is starting to hit his stride) and Wallace. The Shield over the Wyatt Family, although The Shield likely won't be together too much longer.

HowdoYouGetIntoChattersLeague (USA)

that would be so cool!

KC Joyner
  (4:41 PM)

Will say this - if there is a spot available (and they are fairly hard to come by), dibs normally goes to someone who has been a regular chatter. Lots of the league owners have been participating in TFS ESPN SportsNation chats for years.

Carl Winslow (Saves the Day)

How is it that some of us spent all year on here trying to get a question answered and you seem to find the time to post silly things, often times not even related to fantasy sports.. Everyone pays to be in chat, and even though I know you cant get to everyone, atleast show some consideration to those who have legit questions. I know it's about fun but c'mon man. Some of us have been submitting questions all year to be ignored for silly questions. It isn't a free service. Luck, Cutler, Fitzpatrick, Rodgers or Cousins.

KC Joyner
  (4:43 PM)

Carl, check out my history. I aim to answer as many questions as possible and often post more questions than other chatters. And if you asked a question that simply asked which of those five players to start, it sure wouldn't stand out from the 100 other questions that look exactly like it. That's why I suggest people post something that stands out. Rodgers is the pick if he plays, otherwise start Cutler.

Carl's Mom (On the porch)

Tell young Carl Winslow to grab his ball and go home. He apparently doesn't play well with others. and this is a freeeeeeeee chat!

WhenDidChatCost (USA)

in my best scooby voice RUTROH

Sgt Al Powell (sitting in patrol car eating a twinkies)

Ill share my twinkies with you for some help KC need 3 of these guys in std league Stacy, Edelman, K Allen and D Thomas?

KC Joyner
  (4:45 PM)

And he knows the ingredients that make up Twinkies and still acts like all of those are for his wife. Too funny. Would sit Stacy out of that group, as TB's run D has been stout this year.

Carl Winslow (Saves the Day)

Seriously, KC? Of all my questions, you post that half retarded rant meant to just get your attention... I would've rather you answered my 9 player question... Any way, you're still the man.. The rant was tongue in check...

KC Joyner
  (4:46 PM)

Carl clarifies his earlier statement. To borrow a phrase from Pulp Fiction - it's cool, we still talking!

Miggy (Philly)

This isn't a free service???????????????? Then I owe you big time KC. We can settle up after the holidays.... Merry Christmas Carl Winslow!!!

KC Joyner
  (4:47 PM)

No need to settle up - these chats are some of the most fun I have all week. I look very forward to them.

Ray "Crippler" Stevens (Ringside)

Answer this question or you'll get a piledriver on the concrete..Just like I did with Snuka! Do I sit Brees for Cutler??

KC Joyner
  (4:49 PM)

Got to love the kayfabe days. Do not sit Brees - he's posted 19 points in three of his last four road games and is likely to match that total this week.

Derek (MN)

KC, what goes "Oh, Oh, Oh"? Santa flying his sleigh backwards! Ok time for biz, who rates higher between Jennings and Rainey? Also, which 2 of these beasts rates highest, Calvin, Gordon and Alshon? Much appreciated KC!

KC Joyner
  (4:51 PM)

Christmas humor - that's more like it! It's like Hans Gruber said - be of good cheer and call me when you get to the 7th lock. Close call, would say Rainey but Jennings has more matchup upside. Would say Gordon and Alshon given how Calvin looked a bit out of sync last week.

Bill Clay (Nakatomi Tower)

Am I overthinking it by considering starting Todman over Reggie Bush?

KC Joyner
  (4:53 PM)

Bill. Bill Clay. Got to give Hans credit for quick thinking before being dumb enough to think he was handed a loaded gun. Although why did McClane let him call the others? Stick with brung ya, start Bush.

Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)

Mahalo KC! I'm selling my spot for 10 grand. "Everyone has a price" -Ted Dibiase (Actually there is no way I'm selling my spot. Lol)

KC Joyner
  (4:53 PM)

Don't let me see that on Ebay, Lane!

Theo (Nakatomi Plaza control room)

Listen up guys. Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house not a creature was stirring, except these DST in what order Cards, Bengals, Rams, Dolphins, Browns?

KC Joyner
  (4:55 PM)

Theo was great, at least until he got knocked out with one punch. Glass jaw. Hard to rate five in a quick manner (got to keep the chat moving for Carl), would rate the Browns the highest of the group.

Jules Winnfield (LA)

"Say 'what' again. Say 'what' again, I dare you, I double dare you, say what one more time!" PPR Keenan or Stacy?

KC Joyner
  (4:57 PM)

I had to edit that quote a bit - we've got a G/PG rated chat going here. In the future, maybe go with something like Royale with cheese. Really like Keenan's matchup, so he gets the nod.

SnarkySnarkSnark (Snarksville)

For championship do you prefer high upside players or safe floor players? I'm debating between M Wallace and K Wright as my WR3

KC Joyner
  (4:58 PM)

Since the title game tends to be against really strong teams, upside is generally the way to go. Wright has the more favorable CB matchup so he'd be the pick.

Harvey Wippleman (Walls, Mississippi)

As a seasoned manager, I am starting Brown over Ridley or D. Johnson, right KC? Tuxedo Match for old times sake?

KC Joyner
  (5:00 PM)

Why does the WWE get away from matches like that? Someone needs to talk to their creative department. Would start Brown even though he does have a tough matchup - the other two look to be a bit too risky by comparison.

KC Joyner
  (5:02 PM)

Well, that was a fun hour! Couple of quick notes before heading out. I'll be hosting an ESPN.com FFB chat from 11 AM to noon on Sunday morning, so please stop by and say hello before your title game. I'll also be taking part in the Sunday night and Monday night in game chats. Not sure about next week's schedule, will send an update out via Twitter @KCJoynerTFS when it is clarified. Related note - links to the TFS ESPN Insider articles are always posted on that Twitter account. Thanks again for all of the great questions and I wish you the best of luck in this week's games!
