Keep sending questions, I'll get started in a minute
Ok, thanks for joining me. Let's get started!
With the current silence from Texas on their potential Head Coach candidates, who would you beleive are the leading candidates? Also, would Briles leave Baylor with his current success?
It appears the Longhorns have several candidates including Art Briles. I'm starting to think Briles would leave Baylor but I wouldn't if I was him. I think he has a great thing going at Baylor, so don't expect him to be in a hurry to leave. He'd be a good choice for UT.
Great win for KSU on Saturday night... Does something need to be done about the bowl schedule... BWW the title sponsor of the Bowl KSU went to did not even allow fans to listen to the game because to was a UFC fight night and that would be a bigger draw than the bowl game. 20 years ago there were 22 bowl games now we have 35 or 38 bowl games and most schools lose money going to them.
Like what? You don't like being able to watch all those games? Ask yourself, why does the bowl system continue? It's about money, I don't see any major changes anytime soon.
Michigan State or Stanford
I think Stanford wins this one. The Cardinal have a great football team.
What is the best pick for today's games for football and basketball
I can't wait to watch the Alamo Bowl, Texas vs Oregon. And, basketball? It's basketball season? I think Robert Morris at Oklahoma State will be fun. Anytime I can watch Marcus Smart play, it's a good day.
I feel like today is really the start of the bowl season. I'm glad schools like Buffalo, and East Carolina get to say they were in a bowl, but Texas v Oregon and ASU v Texas Tech are matchups I can watch and enjoy without a championship on the line.
Bowl season is definitely kicking into high gear. I'm really looking forward to tonight's games. I want to see if the Red Raiders put up a better fight than I expect and see if the Longhorns can slow down Oregon. Should be a fun night Marc
Aloha Brandon from Hawaii! Oh wait it's 39 degrees. never mind. Anyways, when thinking about OU, if they can somehow pull off a win over Alabama and later in the week land Joe Mixon and Adoree Jackson and maybe a few other top 5 star targets, how good does this team look for 2014 and beyond? I smell championships..... #beatbama
Hawaii? I'm jealous.... As far as OU, sounds like you're expecting a lot, you could be setting yourself up for disappointment. OU has a lot of work to do to make both of those things happen. It's not impossible, but for both to happen? I'd say unlikely.
Hi Brandon what do you make of the Big 12 and can Oklahoma st.run the ball against Missouri in the cotton bowl on January 3rd?
I have a feeling the Cowboys could struggle to run the ball against Missouri. The Tigers have a strong defensive front. OSU is going to need Clint Chelf to have a great game and they'll need a receiver or two to really step up to beat the Tigers.
With K-State returning a ton of talent from a team that finished strong this year. What do you see for 2014?
I see no reason the Wildcats won't be in the thick of the Big 12 race. They return a lot of talent on offense and their defense should be good enough to win games. They should be in the preseason favorite mix for sure.
Freshman impact of Adoree Jackson, and chances OU snags him?
I think he'll have a big impact wherever he goes. It would be a great get if they somehow land him.
What's the attitude coming from OU camp heading into one of the biggest games of Stoops tenure?
They have a huge chip on their shoulder, they don't like people saying they don't have a chance. But they also know they'll have their hands full with Bama.
The name that keeps getting mention for Texas is Jimbo Fisher. I'm surprised because I think of FSU as a top 10 job in the country, and hard to leave after an appearance or win in the BCS Champ game.
A little surprising but Texas is Texas.
In your opinion, is the BIG12 the 4th or 5th best conference among the p5. Do you see OK and OK ST looking for an exit without UT?
No and no. 4th or 5th behind who?
Who are you forecasting to be the next Longhorn coach? Give us your prediction
It changes daily but I'll say Jimbo Fisher today lol
Who out of OU's current 2014 class do you see making the biggest impact as a true freshman?
I'll go with Tulsa Union TE Carson Meier. The Sooners need some help at that spot.
What kind of odds are you giving the Red Raiders in tonight's game?
I don't like their chances. Arizona State has an explosive offense, the Red Raider defense has struggled since their 7-0 start and I think they will continue. This is probably the game that gives me the least amount of hope for the Big 12.
What are my odds of becoming OUs starting QB?
Worse program: Baylor before Art Briles or Kansas State outside Snyder's tenure? (What other jobs has Snyder been offered, if any?)
Both were really really bad. I don't think one was worst than the other.
Stoops, Heupel and M. Stoops are going to be dialed in for this one. it's not gonna get away from them. There might be a little gap in talent, but OU cares too much for this game from the coaches to the fans to the players, they're gonna fight. It'll be closer than the nation expects.
We shall see.
Did you see AJ McCarron's comments regarding his recruitment to OU? He mentioned that if he had seen Bob more he would have gone to OU. I think that is very telling as to Bob's engagement in the program and why the recruiting has fallen off. He can replace all the coaches he wants, but its time for Bob to look in the mirror when it comes to his program. BTW OU's qb commit that year was Drew Allen...
I have a hard time believing Bob Stoops is the only one to blame... but I have been saying OU needs to change its recruiting approach for years.
To me Texas should give the job to Mike Gundy. I think the job he has done in Stillwater is as impressive and any other coach in the country. Okl St. is not a below ave job, but I would argue it's not a top 20 job either.
He'd be a good choice, for sure.
We still want 'bama. Last year's consolation bowl of OR vs K St was a compelling media story, as this year's version of 'bama vs OR would have been too. But 'bama vs OK? zzzzzzz Hopefully the Ducks will be ready for TX. Odds of an upset?
I think Oregon wins... and Sooners fans probably feel differently about OU/Bama.
Hey Chatmon, If the Big XII goes at least 5-1, will the Big XII still be viewed as weak?
It shouldn't be. It's an important bowl season for the Big 12, they need some teams to step up and play well because the conference's national reputation is clearly sliding down the mountain.
i think next year when the committe picks the top four teams that the four teams all have to be conference champs. what do u think? Also, wouldnt be better to have 8 teams - 5 power conference champs and 3 at large?
I'd agree. I'd prefer conference champions but that's not how it will go down.... I think we will reach eight teams at some point in the relatively near future.
Does Oklahoma have a single edge over Bama, if so what would it be?
Say OU does beat Bama. Does that qualify them for a top ten preseason rank in 2014?
Depends on how they look at quarterback
OSU plays the probable national champions FSU to kick off the season in 2014 in Dallas. How much is OSU losing to graduation/draft?
Their defense will be a lot younger next season, which is a scary thought when you consider they'll be facing the Seminoles to kick things off... Yikes.
I'm an OU guy, but i find it a bit funny the idea that Oregon is just gonna run Texas off the field. I think Texas running the ball down Oregon's porous defense is just as likely. Oregon wasn't very impressive when i saw them this year; their offense particularly didn't have the same 'unstopability' that it had during the Chip Kelly years.
That's why I can't wait to see what happens. I like Oregon to win but I wouldn't put anything on it.
Plays OU includes vs Bama...Fake punt. Hook and ladder. Double reverse pass back to knight. Punt return for TD (obviously). Fake Statue of Liberty, knight takes it for a TD. May or May not be in that order. Also, if T.J Yeldon becomes too much of a handful, they unleash Ford to run him over. One more thing, there's no stopping Striker for Bama. Especially with tapper on the other side. I'd be a little queasy if I was a Big 12 QB next year... #boomersooner
Always good to have confidence in your team
With the way that OU's defense has held up for the large part of the season, how do you believe they'll fare against the potent air and ground game of Alabama?
I think the defense will play well enough to keep things close, even win the game. I don't expect defense to be the problem.
Have you got a pick for the Oregon texas game later today?and predict the final score of the game.
I think Oregon wins by a touchdown or more.... So I'll say Oregon 42, UT 31
Why is texas waiting so long in their coaching search,
It's become clear the Longhorns are interested in coaches who have important bowl games to worry about right now.
OU stands a better chance at beating Bama than Oregon. Bama would crush Oregon......what's with all these Oregon people? Did they watch Oregon play lately?
If you say so
does ou have the most returning talent in the big 12
I don't know that I think they have the best but they're right up there with anyone. Especially on defense.
Whats the name of the game for Texas Tech in the off season? Recruit and work on defense?
Recruit, recruit, recruit, then worry about defense. And recruit some more.
with the ou QB group having no clear leader will cody thomas be in the mix to start next seson?
He should be given the opportunity, right? It's not like the Sooners were an explosive passing offense this year
He should be given the opportunity, right? It's not like the Sooners were an explosive passing offense this year
What are the chances of Big 12 expansion in the near future? Who do they go after?
Not high. Why should the Big 12 expand? I don't see any reason the Big 12 should be looking to expand.
to the guy who compares drew allen to mccarron..if you put Drew Allen on that team with that defense and O-line who says he couldnt put up the same numbers? AJ has the easiest quarterbacking job in the country
I think you aren't giving AJ enough credit. He's better than most people want to think.
Brandon, some sports reporters keep kicking around the idea that James Franklin would leave Vandy for UT (Texas to everybody except SEC fans). But not only does he seem very happy there, for the next couple of years he indicates he finds it a compelling challenge to build a program with little winning history (Heisman aside) into a consistent winner, but also history shows that coaches at smaller, private school programs who have success with programs with an indifferent history often don't fare well at bigger state schools with a winning history (DiNardo from Vandy to LSU, for example). The dynamics for success simply are different. Your thoughts?
I don't see any reason why Franklin would not leave Vandy for UT. But, that said, he shouldn't be looking to leave either. He's in a win-win situation if UT comes calling.
ou seems to be in the mix for alot of top plays .... didnt you say ou recruting was trending down? why so many top plays considering ou then?
OU always has a lot of top players considering the Sooners. Landing them is also important.
I'm not too informed on OUs recruiting practices. What do they do that they need to correct?
It would take a long time to go through it all so I'll sum it up with one sentence: Recruit like they are Savannah State.
So you'd pick Oregon to beat OU Brandon?
Word around the internet is Ron Crook interviewed for and has been offered the O-line coaching vacancy at Wake Forrest. This seems like a very lateral move if not even taking a step back. I can think of no reason this guy would leave a school like Stanford to "come home," then only coach for 1 year and leave for a smaller school with less of a football tradition than the school he's currently at. Is this an indictment of the coach? This certainly can't help Dana's reputation of being hard to work with. Thoughts?
I wouldn't look at this situation and make a lot of assumptions. Sometimes things don't mess well together. One thing is certain though: I'm sure Dana Holgorsen knows he needs to win now and patience is waning at WVU.
Will OU actually commit to running one offesnse for the bowl game or will we see this John Blake like back and forth between read option and OU's normal spread?
Why should they? It seems like they should want to have more options, not less.... but I would expect them to try to use more read option. Auburn showed some of that stuff can work against the Tide
I am personally fine with the round robin schedule but in the landscape of college football doesnt having a championship game give the conference a perceived weakness?
I don't think so. Look at this year. The Big 12 had TWO games that impacted the title race on the final weekend of the season. Obviously they can't always plan it that way but I don't think a championship game is a must for the Big 12
OK lets have it, what do you predict the score will be OU/Bama?
As the game gets closer, I'm starting to think Bama wins by double digits. The Sooners offense has me concerned about their chances. The only reason I'm not calling a Bama blowout is because OU has proved me wrong time and time again this season, so at some point I have to start thinking the Sooners find a way, right?
Anyway, I'll say Alabama 31, OU 17.
Has Knight officially been named the starter for the Sugar Bowl?
OU is not going to name anyone before the game but I'd be surprised if it is not Knight.
Is it time for Kish to put up or shut up in terms of recruiting? And has the defensive line coach they snagged from Michigan delivered yet? Recruiting was supposedly one of his strong suits, right?
Jerry Montgomery hasn't been on the job for a full year yet and he should have delivered already? It's not that easy, recruiting is about relationships. Give him more time. As far as Kish, I think he's started to turn the corner. What, the Big 12 freshman of the year isn't enough for you?
I seem to remember a very similar situation in 2004 when Texas Tech walked into San Diego against a #4 ranked, Aaron Rogers led team. No one gave Texas Tech a chance, but the Red Raiders went in and took care of business.Looking forward to tonight. At some point Tech's luck has got to turn around.
That's why bowl season is great. There's always a game or two everyone thinks will go one way that ends up going another. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens.
One more question
Name me one team that is successful running two different offenses? Its not about being multiple which you can do within ONE offesnsive philosophy. Its about looking like a cohesive offense with an identity, which they don't have.
make it two more...
I was talking about the Sugar Bowl against Alabama. OU needs to use what it has
Which two schools would you add to the current Big 12 ten? Up-an-comers like La Tech? Bigger market teams like Houston or Memphis?
None of the above. As I said, I wouldn't be looking to add anyone. If the Big 12 expands, it needs to be a school that brings something unique to the table. Thus BYU would be a good place to start then go from there. But I don't see expansion in the cards anytime soon, it doesn't make sense.
Thanks everyone, enjoy today's bowl games!
