Good afternoon! Let's talk some football!
Yo', KC, you gonna buy the Clippers?
Sportswriting really doesn't pay the kind of money it would take to buy a sports franchise.
A message from Vegas: Megatron >>>>> Mike Wallace!
Megatron >>>>>>>>>>>> Wallace
Megatron >>>>>>>>>>> Wallace
Seems we have a pattern here.
Off the topic, but after three months, how are you liking the WWE Network and will you stop purchasing WWE DVDs? Thanks!
Liking it a lot but wish they had more documentary material and fewer PPVs. I listen to this stuff as background noise when breaking down tapes and it's hard to do that with PPVs.
Will probably still buy some DVDs but only those that seem must-own. And they need to post more classic stuff like Georgia Championship Wrestling - need my Gordon Solie fix.
Better Fantasy pick, Mojo or D-Mac in Oakland?
MJD, but not by much.
Hey KC, do you think Sproles will have a big year in Philly?
Big within a certain context. They won't ask him to be a bell cow but will get him into plenty of favorable matchup situations. It will almost be unfair for him to get 100 plays of that caliber.
You in or out on Clowney?
Would have to say out. He's done some dominant things on tape but to be shut out of the sack stat sheet in 20 of 36 career college games and have only 8 one-on-one sacks the past two years just says effort levels might be an issue.
KC, is it absolutely necessary the Vikings draft a quarterback at #8? Wasn't the reason they re-signed Matt Cassel was so they didn't have to force a quarterback selection as they did three years ago?
The Vikings don't look to have a long-term future QB unless they think Ponder is the answer. If he isn't (and that's a reasonable assumption), they should take a QB. Put it this way - Bridgewater is better than any QB they have and it isn't even close.
What would your top 10 look like for a Keeper League? How much weight do you put on future years?
Would put a lot of weight on future years. The idea for keeper leagues is to have a player who a team can set its future on. Having All Day for one year is great but having Lacy for five years is probably better. May have to do an article on this for Insider.
So a week to the draft, what do you think Texans should do with the top pick?
Teddy Bridgewater. Have been on board the Bridgewater bandwagon for a while now (check out the TFS ESPN Insider article on the subject a few weeks back).
KC! Thanks for giving us addicts something to chat about without football season upon us! Through guile, cunning, and KC-esque genius, I was able to trade for a first round pick this year. I have 4th and 5th in the first round of a 10-man league...RB-RB? RB-QB? RB- Graham? Please Help!
Glad to! We'll make this week's chat a mix of FFB and draft/NFL material given that the draft is just around the corner. RB/RB.
Is Antonio Brown a blue rated WR1? Where would he rank in keeper leagues among other WRs?
Brown will likely be on the precipice of the blue and green ratings. Like his 3-4 year future so would likely rank in the top 10 in a keeper league ranking.
Other than Watkins, which college WR's metric surprised you both in a good and which other one had metrics which were a cause for concern.
Lee had much lower metrics than expected. Thought Beckham would have better numbers. Impressed by Benjamin's numbers and think they could have been better had FSU utilized him differently.
How great can Gio Bernard be this season with more touches? How good were his 2013 RB metrics?
Bernard can be a top 10 RB if the Bengals will make him a lead in a lead/alternate or a bell cow. Can't see the latter happening but the former is possible and he is capable of getting into 8-9 GBYPA territory.
I'm a big TE guy. But I wouldn't draft a TE in the first round of this draft. Agree?
This is the TE king. He drafted like 10 in our fantasy league and they helped him win the title. Ebron is justifiable as a first-round TE.
KC, who was more at fault for lack of offense on Dolphins: the WRs or Tannehill?
If those are the options, Tannehill. If O line is added as an option, that would be the pick.
If draft was today any Jets worth drafting?
Absolutely. Vick, Decker and Johnson will all be fantasy starting caliber players, or at least borderline to that value.
How do you see QB after the big 3? Where do Luck / Ryan / RGIII rank?
Just did some rankings of this nature for ESPN's fantasy football magazine. Can't give away the farm on this but it looks like Luck may be the only part of that trio to end up as a top 10 QB in the rankings.
Is the auto update on KC ??
I checked it on and back off a few minutes ago. Will go back in and do that again here now.
Why is everyone so down on Bridgewater? I thought pro-days didn't mean anything. The guy was pretty clearly the top QB prospect once the season ended and now we're talking about a possible slip to the 2nd round.
Totally agree. Everyone seems to be trying to find a reason to knock him down rather than figure out what it is that he can do to try to help a team win. Heck, even Russell Wilson didn't go through the negatives that Bridgewater is going through and he had more question marks.
For the past few years, I always draft a QB in the middle rounds when the value of one is too good to pass up. I have ended up with guys like Romo, Wilson, or Keap. Agree that this wait and assess strategy makes even more sense this year due to depth at the position?
The only QB I'd recommend investing an extra amount of value in this year is Brees. The Saints schedule is such that he should have a dominant and potentially record-setting year. Outside of him, the strategy should be to wait unless someone drops down to a point where he cannot be passed up (i.e. Peyton in round 3).
If I were a GM I'd draft Clowney with the first pick, Bishop Sankey or Carlos Hyde with my 2nd rounder, and Aj McCarron with my 3rd round pick.
You'd have three highly talented prospects, that's for sure.
KC, Do you buy the thought that Seattle might trade out of the first round to acquire a third round pick ??
When a team has as few question marks as the Seahawks, trading down does make sense. Having noted this, Seattle could use an upgrade at WR and this is the draft to go after WRs.
Hello KC, do you think a Delmas-Reshad Jones safety combination can be effective for the Dolphins?
If they keep Delmas' duties rather restricted to center field, this should work. If they try to make these two interchangeable (i.e. right and left rather than strong/weak or cover/box), it won't work.
What player should Dallas hope falls to them? Barr? Donald? Anyone else?
Not so sold on Barr, as his overall pass rush contribution wasn't as great as his sack totals (see this week's TFS ESPN Insider article on red-flag prospects, of which Barr is one). Donald to Dallas would be a fantastic fit.
What National Football League Games are you Looking Forward Seeing in 2014?
How about the NFC West vs. AFC West matchups. There are a lot of compelling games in that inter conference series.
KC, What would be your strategy in an auction draft ? Get a couple of top 10 RB's, then try for a top 10 WR, while letting QB and TE wait for the middle tier players??
Might be worth it to pay a premium for Brees for the aforementioned reasons but otherwise QBs are a position worth waiting for. Might have to overpay for a RB given the relative lack of depth at that position and that there will be next to zero help in the draft.
I'm not down on Bridgewater, Manziel, or Bortles but I think they're all projects who are 3rd round talents with no difference from guys like Carr, Savage, and McCarron.
Can't say we agree on this one, especially in the case of Bridgewater. Item of note - Carr was one of the red-flag prospects because of how he fared when faced with a strong pass rush.
Hey there, going to hit the road now. Item of note before heading out - I'll be taking part in a chat on ESPN.com this evening from 9-10 PM ET. It will be discussing the Kiper/McShay picks. Stop by and say hello if you have a moment. Other item of note - links to the TFS ESPN Insider material are always posted on Twitter @KCJoynerTFS. Thanks again for the questions and I hope to see you all here next week!
