Chat with Jean-Jacques Taylor

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:03 PM)

What's up? Sooooo much to talk about today. Let's do this!!

Carl Raleigh NC [via mobile]

What's up JJT, I read on a draft site where it was suggested the Boys trade their 1st and 2nd to Detroit for the 10th pick and take Aaron Donald now I like Donald but I think that's a mistake what do you say Sir?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:06 PM)

Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. This is a draft where the Cowboys need to go back, if they're going anywhere. They have a lot of needs and this is a deep draft.

Ed (Queens Village)

How do you see Spurs/Mavs playing out and who wins?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:06 PM)

Spurs in 7 to me. Mavs keep taking their best shot, but this series depends on your perspective. If you're a MFFL, you say we should be up 3-1. If you're Spurs fan, you think we should be up 3-1.

Keanu (Honolulu)

JJT, how do the A's keep owning Darvish?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:07 PM)

Why do the Rangers own King Felix. Every pitcher has a nemesis. The and news for Texas is Oakland is the best team in the division and Yu is their best pitcher. First, they have a lot of confidence in they ability to hit him and they go to the plate with a good approach. And now, as you would expect, they're in his head.

Candy (Slippery Rock)

Hello JJT, do you think Wash will give Harrison and Lewis some extra days off here and there to keep them fresh?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:08 PM)

he tends to do that for every pitcher throughout the season. Darvish pitched on 6 days yesterday. He'll skip a turn for some guys as we get deeper into the season

Derrick (Garden City)

How do you like the play of Chirinos at catcher?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:10 PM)

It's all relative. JP Arencibia has been so awful that Chirinos looks great. Here's the deal, I think he's a terrific backup. The kind of guy who could start 40 games and if your starter went on the 15-day DL, you would feel fine with him starting for a couple of weeks. He handles pitchers, does a good job blocking balls and at least gives you a legit AB most times at the plate. He's only going tho his .230 or .240, but on this team if he'll do that and bunt and move guys over when he's asked that will be more than enough

jfb (dfw)

What did you think of the officiating last night? It seems the first half the refs weren't calling anything and it was the total opposite in the seond half. There were three plays where the Mavs got the short end of the stick, Ginobili attempting to do a Durant 3 pt. play drawing contact, Blair put back negated b/c he supposedly pushed Duncan, and the Blair/Splitter play at the end where both guys are going for the ball and Blair gets called for the foul, over reacts, gets tossed for the kick and it's a 3 pt. swing. The Mavs put themselves in a big hole, but the refs didn't do them any favors once the game got close.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:11 PM)

The officiating was fine. I'm not a dude who ever whines about officiating. Good team overcome bad calls. It's a non-issue to me

jfb (dfw)

Do the Mavs need to force feed Dirk to get him more involved? People talk about his lack of pts. but his attempts are way down.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:13 PM)

The Spurs have decided Dirk isn;t going to beat them/ They have given him considerable attention and they refuse to let him beat them. He missed some open looks last night that he usually doesn't. But overall, he didn't have much space to operate and he hasn't. There's a reason he's made just 25 of 65 shots in this series. They pay him tight and don't give him room to maneuver.

Morice (Virginia Beach, VA) [via mobile]

Do you think the Spencer signing could possibly deter Dallas from getting a d-lineman in the first round in the draft?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:17 PM)

Nooooooo!!! not if one of the guys they like is there such as Aaron Donald. Spencer can't even run yet. They hope he's ready for training camp. He had a serious injury, which is why he signed a one-year deal with Dallas. No one else was ready to take a chance on him. Whatever he provides this season is gravy

Bryan (Springdale, AR)

Have you ever seen the Mavericks attack the rim that relentlessly and quickly than they did in the 3rd quarter? It seems that almost every shot was being taken within 10 seconds of the shot clock. Do you expect this attitude of attacking the paint to happen again in game 5?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:19 PM)

Monta Ellis led the NBA in drives to the basket. When he's aggressive and attacking, the Mavs are better because that penetration opens up the rest of their shooters. The Spurs tried to make him maneuver more last night instead of allowing him to take a straight line to the bucket. he made just 6 of 20 shots.

Jon (Austin)

Do you think Avery will get another shot in the NBA? I know things ended horribly, but he won 67 games and took the Mavs to the Finals.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:20 PM)

Probably. But he also wants a good job and not that many of them come open.

Stephan (NJ)

Do you think Melton/spencer combo can produce more sacks than ware/hatcher assuming both are healthy?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:22 PM)

I wouldn't assume both are healthy. Spencer had serious knee injury and Melton is coming off ACL. He should be fine, but until he's out there doing it you newer really know. Spencer had a much more serious injury. You just have to wait and see with Spencer

Daniel (texas)

Should the cowboys draft a punter with one of those comp picks in the 7th round? i'm not a big fan of jones

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:22 PM)

uh, no. FA punters are fine. Chris Jones is fine.

Will (Va)

if Orton decides not to pay does that money go back on the cowboys cap that he owes?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:24 PM)

I don't think it affects the cap, but I'm not certain. The dead money is the dead money. But I need to check with my apologist in Flower Mound. If he's decided he doesn't want to play and he's taken care of his money, then it won't be a big deal for him to re-pay it

Aaron (harrison, AR)

Why did the Cowboys decide to run a scheme that none of the cowboys outside of scandrick seem to fit?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:28 PM)

That's pretty funny. Because they lost to Washington when Romo threw his 3rd interception and they missed the playoffs. Rob Ryan became the scapegoat and Jerry Jones thought Monte Kiffin could be his savior. It was a panic move by a rudderless franchise and Jason Garrett wasn't in position to say anything because of their record

Tee (Texas)

Heard report of Dallas moving up to take Manziel. Your thoughts?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:29 PM)

Potentially, the dumbest. Move. Ever.

Gio (Dallas) [via mobile]

Do you still think the mavs have no chance upsetting the spurs? If or when the mavericks beat the spurs, how far do you think they can go? Can they beat Portland in the 2nd round?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:31 PM)

Why don't you let the Mavs win this series before you have them in the Finals against Miami. I still think Spurs will win, but it might take seven instead of five. Who did you have winning and why? I want to know the basketball reasons because there are none for picking the Mavs over the Spurs in a 7-game series? But that's the beauty of sport and that's why you play the games

Carlos (Dallas) [via mobile]

What player or players are the key for the mavs to beat the spurs? Do you think mavs would have won if Blair didn't get ejected?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:32 PM)

It would be easier if the Mavs could get Dirk to go off and have an efficient 25-point game, but I don't know if that's going to happen. Blair ejection isn't why they lost. The score was tied at 87-87 when Diaw hit the three.

Brandon [via mobile]

Mr Taylor, are there any players in the cowboys board which they consider moving up to take? Say, in the 9-14 range, if they would slide.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:33 PM)

I wouldn't think so. They're not one player away. They're many players away. Thus should be a collect talent draft

Akash (Panchal)

I think the Mavs pull out game 5.. what do you think JJT?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:34 PM)

I would think the Spurs would win G5

Jay (Philadelphia)

The coverage and attacks on Donald Sterling are hypocritical and a complete double standard by ESPN and all of the outrage black athletes. Where was this outrage and boycott threats when Jay-Z was a part owner of the Brooklyn Nets? Jay-Z is a racist with his music containing the n-word and a sexist with his music containing derogatory and disparaging words about women. Where was Magic and Jordan and LeBron and others then? Where are they now that Jay-Z is a licensed agent by the NBA as well as the MLB, NFL, WNBA? The NBA will probably be giving Kevin Durant the MVP award in the next couple weeks and he is represented by Jay-Z? The NBA's MVP endorses a racist and a sexist. If Donald Sterling should not own a NBA team or be associated with the NBA, then Jay-Z should not as well. I tired of hearing ESPN put every black athlete on TV to attack Sterling when they said nothing about Jay-Z. Some of them even embraced Jay-Z and probably still pay to listen to his music on their phones and tablets.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:38 PM)

Pretty sure Jay-Z has never been sued for housing discrimination and I'm pretty sure his mistress hasn't recorded a racist rant. You sound angry. Perhaps you need to spend some time meditating or in prayer. Even if I did choose to look at things through your thoughts are on Jay-Z have nothing to do with what Sterling did. You gotta come up with a more sophisticated plan than the old bait and switch. You're better than that. Be blessed.

Cooper (Sherman, TX)

How surprised are you about the good play we are getting from the Center position (Blair, SammyD)?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:39 PM)

You'd have to be. 19 points 26 rebounds and 3 steals last night, I believe. That's insane. You hate to lose on a night you get that but Dalembert's struggles from line at end of game didn't help.

Chris (Dallas)

Why in the world was Dirk called for a technical last night and for that matter how was Blair whisteled for going for a loose ball? It seemed him and Splitter got there at the same time going for it. Not blaming the refs but that was a few points the Mavs could have used.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:39 PM)

Dirk said one of the magic words. Blair kicked the dude in the head

Shawn (NC Mtns)

Hey JJT, Thoughts on Spencer re-signing?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:40 PM)

Yawn. He's hurt. I have zero expectations.

Alex (brownsville tx)

Mark cuban has spoke about the the clippers situation as a slippery slope but i want to know what are the nlf and nba player associations saying because to some degree i lump this with the miami dolphins problem of last year where a player was being harass racially by fellow players. these two leagues are exempt from federal labor laws. but with the the nfl player filing a legal complaint makes things very muddled. I see something similar playing out with the clippers. Now if the feds where to get involved worse case senario the locker room wold be more like a office setting then a locker room as we know it

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:44 PM)

I don't lump them together. They seem separate to me.

Tiesa Leggett [via mobile]

Great review of Monta. I agree with your Game 5 prediction. As for Sterling, some part of me thinks he was talking out of jealousy regarding black men being seen with his girlfriend or whatever she is to him. I think his comments revealed something deeper that now has a voice.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:45 PM)

I don't know, he has a loooooong history of bigoted behavior.

mitch (chicago)

thoughts on the stars season? where do you see them next year?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:47 PM)

Stars had a great season, but if that were the Cowboys, Rangers or Mavs we'd be talking about how they choked the game away. Two goals in last couple of minutes at home? Future is bright with Benn and Seguin and Lehtonen, but as I've said a million times organizations win titles. I like Jim Nill and Lindy Ruff. Nill knows what a winner looks like up close and he'll churn the roster to get the Stars to a championship level

Chris (Fresno)

Maybe jfb was watching a different game, but all those fouls were legit, if anything there should have been more fouls against the Mavs. Blair should have been fouled out in the first half. he clearly pushed Duncan and hacked him all game long.

Matt [via mobile]

who do you see winning the NFC East?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:54 PM)

Dude, we don't even know who's on the roster yet. You gotta wait a while

Luis (lufkin tx) [via mobile]

Do u see the cowboys taking a safety with their 1st pick?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:55 PM)

It depends on who's there really? I think DL, OL and LB are higher priorities. They just can't miss with the pick. The position doesn't really matter.

Stan [via mobile]

Please tell me Jerrah will be smart and stay away from Manziel

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:56 PM)

I've already done that

Chris (Dallas)

Do you see Dware dominating again in Denver?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:56 PM)

If he can stay healthy - a huge if - then he's going to get 10-12 sacks playing on the other side of Von Miller and playing with a lead most of the time

Joe (Hartford)

If Spencer doesn't produce in camp and shows he's still hurt, would you agree that the Cowboys would just cut him seeing as there's no guaranteed money?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:56 PM)

probably, but that's a few months off

Mo (Las Colinas)

when can we(fans/media) start making a big deal for the lack of run support for Yu? I know the A's have his number but every start he gets nothing but for matt harrison they'll put up 5. If they put up 5 with Yu, he'd have 40 career wins

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:58 PM)

He's paid to pitch well and keep the Rangers in the game. He's done that. That's all that matters. His first year they scored like 8 runs a game for him. Run support comes and goes. His job is to ignore it and pitch 200 innings

Pete (MD)

Which team can you catch on regional networks in New Orleans, Astros, Rangers, or both?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:58 PM)

google my friend

Mike (PA)

Spencer, Selvie, Melton, Mincey, Bass, Hayden,Crawford and add in a top draft pick and this DL is starting to look quite deep, maybe not as talented but definitely alot more depth than in the past few years....Thoughts?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:00 PM)

depth only matters if dudes can play. I don't know that any of those guys, right now, is more than just a guy except for Melton. We'll soon see

Bryan (Springdale, AR)

Jay in Philadelphia does have a good point, but he needs to make the point in a way that still supports ESPN and other outlets for giving voice to black players in light of what has happened with Donald Sterling. Both Sterling and Jay-Z are not good for the sport.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:01 PM)

not sure what's wrong with Jay-Z. He's created a billion dollar empire with money, clothing and a brand. Clearly, he's a self-made entrepreneur

Dmatt (Nebraska)

From what i saw last night is that Tim Duncan was really bothered by Blair's physical play. Is that going to be a new formula? Or was he out there because Dalembert wasn't what he was in Game 3?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:01 PM)

Blair spent four years practicing against him. He knows what gets under his skin. He knows what bothers him

Bryan (Springdale, AR)

JJT, you don't what the argument against Sterling muddled by the facts about Jay-Z, I get that. Sterling should receive the harshest punishment available and I hope he loses a lot of money in selling the team. That being said, Jay-Z does have a history of racist remarks in his music and degrades women as well. You can say "sure, both should be gone since both have regularly made racist statements." You are not selling out the black community by agreeing with the original commenter about Jay-Z.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:03 PM)

Oh, now I'm worried about selling out the black community. I love it when folks who aren't black want to tell me about racism. Cracks me up every single time. Every single solitary time.

Chris (Dallas)

It seems our bullpen is really shaky. Frasor is the only pen guy that hasnt been iffy. Soria has been ok but you dont feel its a lock to close when he comes in. Are they just going through a tough stretch or do they need to look for some steadier arms out there? Bullpen was supposed to be a huge strength for us.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:05 PM)

the bullpen is shaky because Scheppers and Ross - two key pieces last year - are not in it right now and Neal Cotts and Alexi Ogando have had some poor outings. If they can get everybody pitching well at once, then bullpen will be fine. They're not alone. Oakland and Los Angeles each have bullpen issues too

DallasFan (Lincoln, NE)

The draft seems to be loaded with talent. I felt that the Cowboys sold low on their pick last year. Do you think if they move back this year they actually get what their pick is worth when moving back?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:07 PM)

it's like anything else bro, you can only get what folks are offering. It also depends on how important it is for you to move the pick. Sometimes, it's not about winning a trade, it's just about getting the deal done.

Chris (Fresno)

Again, what bothers Tim Duncan is getting fouled everytime he tries to shoot. How can a 6'7'" (more like 6'5") be able to guard a 6'11" player who is an all time great! Or that's right foul him and hope the refs look the other way. :)

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:07 PM)

no, you body him and get low and make yourself a nuisance because you know Duncan whines a lot anyway. Blair has done a fantastic job in 2 of 4 games

Stan [via mobile]

Also why on the hell did the rangers sign arencibia in the first place?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:08 PM)

he had a lot of power and was OK behind the plate. He was supposed to be backup playing 1-2 times a week. Soto injury created more playing time for him, but he has been bad since spring training began

Jerome (Dubai, UAE)

WE have a very close series with the number one seed. Dirk hasn't had his game going yet. He's not taking the last shot either. Is Rick really designed this team this year not making Dirk the first option anymore?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:09 PM)

like a lot of teams in the NBA, your first option gets taken away. It's why you need multiple option on every play

Duane (Dallas)

JJT - By no means do I condone what Donald Sterling said - however I do have a problem with the likes of Chris Paul and Doc Rivers all of a sudden acting like this is some sort of surprise or insulted to the point where they can't play/coach for him anymore. Donald Sterling has been a racist for years and neither one of them cared last year when they chose to sign with him and his team.. they had no problem cashing his check, but now that social media gets a hold of just how big of a racist he is - Paul and Rivers have to act like they are just so insulted.. come on.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:11 PM)

I don't know that either has answered that particular question. I will say there's a difference between some stories that have been written about his housing practices and whatever has cone out in court testimony and HEARING with your own ears the things he said with no filter. Those guys will be asked those specific questions and I'll be interested to hear their answers just like you

Dan (Temple)

What do you think of those that say Sterling should be forced out of the league? He should be punished obviously, but we are not seriously going to deprive a man of his business for having stupid opinions are we? I have to agree with Cuban on this. It is a slippery slope.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:13 PM)

It's very interesting question. This is America, the place where you're allowed freedom of speech. But the NBA is also like a private club with a limited number of partners. I could see both sides in this issue and I haven't studied up on it enough. I would guess he's not the only owner in pros sports with those feelings

DallasFan (Lincoln, NE)

I couldn't have been the only one last night who noticed when we were losing 87-84 late in the game that we left 3 points at the line very recently from Monta and Dalembert. They're FREE JJT!!

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:14 PM)

oh yea. those were huge

Chris (Dallas)

Where has the Ginobli flop been in this series?? Hes usually good for about a dozen or so of them. Im pretty sure thats why his shoes broke earlier in the year. They were expecting him to flop and he didnt so they broke under the stress of real defense.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:15 PM)

dude, he flopped all over the court last night

robert (san diego, ca)

how much of a shake up would it be if the Cowboys Drafted Johnny Football? Is this something Jerry and Red J would want to do to Romo with the added pressure and Competition at QB?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:15 PM)

there wouldn't be a competition. Romo is the guy and will be for next 2-3 years

John (Philadelphia, PA)

Can we call out ESPN for its hypocrisy in ignoring the Donald Sterling proven racist for the past decade because it would be bad press for their NBA partner (and perhaps hurt ESPN's ratings). ESPN is not a news organization and should stop pretending they are.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:16 PM)

why don't you send the people in Bristol who make those decisions an e-mail and see what you get back?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:17 PM)

I gave you guys an extra 15 minutes today since there was so much to talk about, but I gotta roll now. We'll do it again next week. Peace
