We've got Barry!

Jean Claude (Vermont)

Who has the bigger impact tonight for the Avs, Duchene or mackinnon?

Barry Melrose
  (3:02 PM)

I think it has to be MacKinnon. It's asking a lot for Matt to be an impact in the game when he hasn't played all series. It's up to Mackinnon to be the leader.

Mac (Mechanicsburg, PA)

Barry, no question here. Just wanted to say: Flyers-Rangers in a game 7? Yes, please!!!

Barry Melrose
  (3:02 PM)

It hasn't been a great series. It hasn't had that normal Philly-New York intensity. Not a lot of passion. But in that way, it's been a disappointment. But hopefully Game 7 will cure all of that.

Adam (Chicago)

Doesn't this feel like we are headed for a rematch of last year?

Barry Melrose
  (3:03 PM)

They are certainly on that track. But you still have the Ducks looking great. The winner of LA-San Jose is great. In the East, you have to go through Montreal and Pittsburgh potentially, but Chicago and Boston look pretty good.

Alex (Anaheim)

Why can't the Rangers convert a power play?

Barry Melrose
  (3:04 PM)

Their PP is brutal right now, 0-16 or 17, something like that. That has to change. It's up to the guys on the PP to change it. St. Louis, Nash, those guys. A PP goal could be the difference today.

Will (Boston)

If you could only watch one of the three games tonight. What game are you going with?

Barry Melrose
  (3:05 PM)

Great question!...I would be watching Kings-Sharks. That is the one I want to see, if they can come back from 3-0. At one point the Sharks were unbeatable. Coming back from 3-0 down is so rare, you want to watch it.

Mike P (Greater KC Metro)

Are the Red Wings starting to enter the transition phase of the team with players getting older and especially get use to the Eastern Conference? If they were in the West this year would they have had the same outcome that they had in the east?

Barry Melrose
  (3:06 PM)

Yeah, it's a different time for them. Younger players are becoming more important. Injuries were a factor. But they're still a young team. Datsyuk and Zetterberg can still play a few more years to help the young players. They don't have the stability we're used to seeing.

Adam (Chicago)

Is there a better leader than Jonathan Toews? He always steps up when it matters.

Barry Melrose
  (3:07 PM)

He's been great. Parise has been great. Those are two of the great ones right now. And that's one of the reasons the Blackhawks are one of the favorites. Toews is one of the best in hockey, no doubt.

Doug (Long Island)

Good Afternoon Barry,Quick, your picks for tonight? I got Sharks/Rangers/Avalanche.

Barry Melrose
  (3:07 PM)

I have Kings, Rangers, Wild.

Jay (MN)

The home team is 6-0 in the Wild/Avs series so far but MN has been close to stealing a game or two in Colorado. What do they have to do tonight to get over the hump and win game 7?

Barry Melrose
  (3:08 PM)

Parise has to be great. He has goals in the last two games. Ryan Sutter has to play about 40 minutes and they have to control Nate MacKinnon somehow.

James Hamlett (Philadelphia)

How can the Flyers win on the road against the Rangers tonight?

Barry Melrose
  (3:09 PM)

The Flyers have to go in and Mason has to be better than Lundqvist. In Game 6 he was, especially in the first period and that carried them on to victory.

Tony (Richmond, CA)

Barry say it isn't so. Are my Sharks going to choke it way again? And is the coach gone if they do?

Barry Melrose
  (3:09 PM)

No, I don't think the coach is gone. You have to look at the body of work. If they lose, this might be the most disappointing loss they've ever had.

The 5th Line!! (Columbus, OH)

We couldn't be prouder of our CBJ's playoff performance, but what do we need to do to ensure we keep progressing and moving forward? I personally think we need to attack the net more, we were outshot in every game! Do you agree?

Barry Melrose
  (3:10 PM)

Their game plan is good, bringing in young players to all positions. Everyone on the team is in their prime. Continue on the route they've been on. They've drafted well. They have a lot of kids in the pipeline. They have a great gameplan.

Mitch (Michigan)

How much better does the underrated Paille make the Bruins coming back from injury?

Barry Melrose
  (3:11 PM)

He really helps the fourth line. That's the best one in the NHL, when he's on it. They play great five on five. That will make them deeper up front.

Shawn (Detroit)

What do you think of an "original 6" road to the cup for the B's...Wings, Habs, Rangers, and Blackhawks?

Barry Melrose
  (3:12 PM)

That could happen. Very easily. It would be great for hockey. I think everyone loves with the Original 6 play each other. Everyone who loves hockey would love to see continuous 6 matchups.

Michael (Anaheim)

Who do you think the Ducks will count on as their goaltender going forward in the next series?

Barry Melrose
  (3:12 PM)

I think you have to give Hiller a chance now. They gave Anderson a chance and couldn't get it done. Hiller saved them. You have to give him a chance in the next round.

Rich (New Jersey)

Hi Barry, I see both the Bruins - Red Wings & Canadiens - Lightning series going 6 games how do you see both of these series going ?

Barry Melrose
  (3:13 PM)

I don't think any of the series will be sweeps. These are all great teams, since they've already won rounds. When I get to the second, third rounds, you're looking at 6-7 games, so I agree with you there.

Jerry (Chicago)

If you are the Blackhawsk who do you want to play in the second round? Minnesota or Colorado? I think Minnesota is making that a tough choice. Please let me know your thoughts. Love reading your stuff every week. GO BLACKHAWKS!!! Thanks

Barry Melrose
  (3:14 PM)

I'm going to say Minnesota, because the Avs have played Chicago so well this year. But I don't think it really matters. Chicago has taken on all comers this year. But the Avs can skate with them, when very few teams can.

Hannah (Tampa, FL)

Barry I know the Bolts are out of the playoffs but I was wondering what you think they need to do this offseason to help them go further into the playoffs next year? Top line right handed puck moving D, resign Callahan, find someone for Stamkos wing to set him up? Thanks for answering

Barry Melrose
  (3:15 PM)

They have to make sure Bishop is healthy. If he were healthy, you would have seen a different series. That's one of the most important things. They have a good team. They will draft high again and already have good young players in the pipeline.

JLE (nyc)

Greetings Mr. Melrose: does Nash finally come through tonite? How important is home ice game 7?

Barry Melrose
  (3:16 PM)

I think he has to. He is one of the keys to the series. He's not scoring. He needs to get better. He's the catalyst to the PP and the scoring.

James Hamlett (Philadelphia)

Do you think Niemi should start game 7? Or is switching to Stalock a good move by Todd Mclellan?

Barry Melrose
  (3:17 PM)

That's the $1 million question. I think you have to go back to him. He's already won a Cup. It will be a very interesting call. That's one reason I think San Jose is such a mess right now. There is a Game 7 and you don't know who to put in net.

Victor (Louisiana)

Do you think some coach;s jobs are on the line if they don't make it out of the first round?

Barry Melrose
  (3:18 PM)

No, usually if you make the playoffs, your job is OK. I don't see any jobs being lost if you make it to the first round. It might not get you an extension if you lose, but it gets you another year.

Elias (Los Angeles)

What do the Kings have to do to pull out a win in the Shark Tank?

Barry Melrose
  (3:18 PM)

Don't change a thing. They've had a great game plan right now. Quick looks like Quick. The right guys are scoring. They have to go in and give San Jose a reason to quit, and that's by scoring the first goal. That first one will be key to both teams.

Mitch (Michigan)

I was very impressed with Chara and the young boys on the Bruins defense in round 1 giving up 7 goals in 5 games...How much more of a challenge does Montreal bring offensively than the Wings?

Barry Melrose
  (3:19 PM)

Different type of offense. They're smaller, very quick. They have Subban that Tampa had no answer for Vanek came in and gave them some offense. Boston is pretty good at shutting down certain guys.

Doug (kingston, pa)

Philly atmosphere last night was incredible. Do you agree that the high from thumping the rangers last night leads into this games start. It's usually the home team starting fast.

Barry Melrose
  (3:20 PM)

I think the Rangers fans will be crazy in that building. The Rangers have to feed off that. The Rangers started off well. They just couldn't score and the Flyers took over. The Rangers need to start a good game right off the bat and the crowd could help with that.

george (new york)

Barry, What happened to the Rangers last night after the first 10 minutes of the game?

Barry Melrose
  (3:21 PM)

They quit competing. They didn't get results and stopped competing. That's not good enough. Hopefully tonight we'll see a much more competitive Rangers team and the game will be great.

Shawn (Detroit)

Does the first goal in tonight's games get those teams a victory?

Barry Melrose
  (3:22 PM)

No. If there's one thing we've seen in the playoffs it's that the first goal means nothing. Its a step and you need to battle for 60 minutes. It's a battle. Whoever battles for all 60 has a good chance of winning.

Zane (New Mexico)

If Cooke hadn't taken Barrie out, would the Wild-Avs series already be over or is it just that the Wild are simply more experienced that has kept them in it?

Barry Melrose
  (3:23 PM)

I think the Wild have played very well. They were better in Game 5 and definitely in Game 6. We have three Game 7s due to the parity in the NHL.

Ann (Ottawa)

which round 2 match up are you most looking forward to?

Barry Melrose
  (3:24 PM)

That's a good one. Probably Pittsburgh and whoever they play. You never know what you'll get out of them. Will they become the team we think they can be? Will they fall flat on their face? Will Philly do what they did to them last year?

James Hamlett (Philadelphia)

Where do you think Fleury's confidence is right now? During the playoffs he sometimes looks good and then sometimes looks awful.

Barry Melrose
  (3:24 PM)

It's probably as good as it's been all playoffs. He played a good Game 5 and Game 6. He shook off the bad Game 4. So he probably feels the best he has all playoffs.

Gary (Los Angeles)

Barry, can you tell me why NO punishment was given to Thornton for clearly targeting Brown with his knee??

Barry Melrose
  (3:25 PM)

Matt Cooke is an easy guy to suspend. If you have a history, you'll be judged on it. But Thornton doesn't have the history, so he's judged by a different set of rules. You can say that's not fair, but it's true.

Justin (Georgia)

Do you think Ryan Miller will be back with the Blues next year? If not, I would love to see him in a Pens jersey.....bye bye Fleury!!! LOL!

Barry Melrose
  (3:26 PM)

Do the Blues want him? He will cost a lot of money and he didn't play great in the playoffs. They might not want him as much as if he had played great. Interesting to watch.

Chris Schulz (Philly)

Why has Claude Giroux been less of factor for the Flyers in the first series?

Barry Melrose
  (3:27 PM)

He has good defensive players playing against him any time he's on the ice. They're making sure that he doesn't beat them. That's good coaching. That is why he hasn't been great on offense.

Mark (Duluth, MN)

Who besides Parise or Suter, do you see as the key guy for them tonight to finally get one in Colorado, after being so close in Game 1 & 5?

Barry Melrose
  (3:32 PM)

Darcy Kuemper. Granlund. The guys that have gotten them there. They need a great gameplan and need to execute very well.

Michael (MN)

The home team's last line change is crucial. Who from the Wild would you choose to contain McKinnon tonight?

Barry Melrose
  (3:32 PM)

Suter. That's the guy you need out there with MacKinnon. He plays half the game anyway. That's why you paid him all the money. He's one of the best defensemen in the league.

Barry Melrose
  (3:33 PM)

Sit back and enjoy the ride tonight. It should be a blast!
