Good morning, gang! Another 60 minutes of fantasy chattage lies ahead. Second cup of coffee is firmly in hand, so let's get started, shall we? Who's up first?
Stroman worth a pick up over someone like Buchholz?
I think so. Likely to get the call soon, and plenty of upside if he can avoid giving up the longball.
In a total points league please rank these pitchers Masterson, Salazar and Peralta
Peralta, Masterson, Salazar.
Grabbed Neil Walker when he went on a HR binge, but he's cooled off considerably. What do you see for him ROS?
Streaky power and a low BA. Slightly more overall value than you've received thus far.
Speaking of longball, are Carlos Santana and Encarnacion finally turnng it around?
Edwin, yes. Carlos, no.
Harang - A blip on the season last night, or a sign of things to come?
Willing to call it a blip for now... a No. 4 SP for fantasy purposes.
Drop Springer for Gardner?
Yes. Learning curve will take time.
Chances Machado plays both games today?
I'd guess against it. Just think the O's are going to play things very carefully...
same thing about Cingrani. Sign of things to come? He has struggled lately
I think he'll settle down a bit, but not currently in my "starter range" (top 60).
Homer Bailey: Buy or Sell?
I can see holding on to him if you have him already, but not buying if I don't.
Justin Upton or Chris Davis ROS?
Going with Upton here, Upton here.
Melky Cabrera or Castellanos?
Melky for this year.
Is Shelby Miller on your starter range???
Not at the present time. Needs to find control in a big way before he will be.
In a league of people that never trade, I merely offered my Cashner for someones Bumgarner and they actually accepted! Good deal?
It's not a deal I would have made. Really like Cashner by a large margin.
12-team keeper - Seager or Sandoval? If Seager, safe to dump Panda or is it still too soon to worry?
I certainly prefer Seager, but I'm not sure I'd outright dump Panda either.
Nate Eovaldi looks good after working on his secondary offerings. Why no love from the fantasy community?
He's not exactly the first name you think of when rattling off the top SP... but so far this season, I have him ranked No. 11. Don't think he stays this high by any means, so maybe that's "no love?"
Chris Davis or Jose Abreu. Who would you rather have for the rest of the year?
It will be interesting to see if/when pitchers start adjusting to Abreu and work the inside a bit more... but today, I'd go with him.
Should I dump Headley off DL to make room for Pineda on it?
I think MP is a sinking ship...
Would you want Infante or Semien over Neil Walker?
Maybe Omar, but it's not a huge leaning there.
Do you see Dozier going 20/20?
I'm going to say no, but it's more because I fear his style of play is going to cause him to wear down by the end of the season. Love watching him play -- but all those dives could catch up to him.
Cespedes or Craig ROS
If I believed for sure that Yoenis was going to be healthy all year...
Anthony Rendon or Aaron Hill ROS?
I'm in Rendon's camp.
Stanton or Gomez ROS?
Who are you? Why would they have you on the show?
Who are they? Who are you? What is the show? Where am I?
What are the point of some of these questions? If you have Chris Davis/Jose Abreu, you're keep both. If you have Stanton/Gomez, you're keeping both. If you have Craig/Cespedes, you're keeping both. Start answering some questions that actually matter.
Some people play in daily leagues or those with salary caps (where players can be on more than one team) so those questions can be valid. Plus, perhaps they're asking to consider a trade. Don't be hating.
Dark Horse Cy Young pick?
Ervin? Cy? Don't think so... but there's time to re-evaluate. What about Hudson? For the record, my pre-season pick was Cliff.
What do you think about a weekly platoon at a position like C based on upcoming pitching matchups?
Even if you've got two relatively equal options, generally speaking the odds are better if you just pick one and stick with him. I can see making a swap if one guy is going to Colorado and Arizona for the week... but more often than not, you end up with lesser stats combined than either one would have given you alone.
Pujols has looked like he turned back the clock to 2009. If he stays healthy, no reason to believe he can't be a top 10 player, right?
He's No. 3 now, so...
Is Will Venable ever going to actually, ya know, do anything?
Terribly disappointed in Will. As the rest of that OF starts to heal -- CQ almost ready to start rehab games -- Venable's PT will vanish.
SS Issues....Please rank: Villar, Hardy, A.Cabrera ROS...Thanks!
Villar, Asdrubal, JJ
Will Jesse Chavez keep this up? What about Roark, Skaggs & Richards? All off to good starts.
Chavez most likely to continue the roll, Skaggs the least.
I have enjoyed C. Blackman so far, should I hold and enjoy this waiver wire find, or try to trade him for someone and who do you think I should target?
Let's say Blackmon is totally legit and he finishes the year at .320. If you can trade him now for Miggy and he also finishes season at .320, you win that deal... I think if you can get an established player who is slumping, why not? You've already "won" April with Blackmon.
Cishek or Soria ROS?
I like Soria.
BJ Upton or an empty roster spot, ROS?
Sadly, so far, the empty roster spot is winning. But I have to throw my vote to BJ the rest of the way.
ROS: Mesoraco, Gattis, Miguel Montero, or Salty?
Kazmir, sell high? Or do home games in Oakland give him a big edge? Also worried that he'll end up on the DL at some point.
It's kind of similar to the Blackmon question. If you can get in return someone you have more faith in, you make the deal. We're not psychics and we can't predict injuries, but if you're worried...
You are going to sit here, look me in the eye and tell me Skaggs is less likely to continue pitching well than Roark? Blasphemy.
You heard me!
Where does Ryu stand in your rankings?
To date? He's No. 29. Always two sets of numbers to look at for rankings -- what they've done so far and then what direction I think they're headed. Don't see a lot of rise here.
Dayan Viciedo or Adam Dunn?
Like Sam Malone, I pick Dayan.
Drop Carl Crawford for Daniel Murphy? Yes, I just asked that...
He did bat 9th this week. So, it's not the craziest idea.
what is wrong with mr gyorko?
Likely a delightful slump cocktail of increased pressure caused by signing the big deal and distraction from the fact his wife was pregnant with twins. Personal matters sometimes influence things...
Matt Cain a top 30 SP ROS?
There's improvement to be found here. I'm optimistic.
What is the point of having rankings for what a player has done? The whole point is to project going forward. You can't do anything about the past.
If you don't have a concept of how much a HR or a SB is actually worth, you can't determine value going forward. And you also can't project the future without some understanding of how a player has done in the past -- it's not a linear projection, but it's also not picked out from the mystical ether.
Niese, Peralta, or Quintana ROS?
I'm going to go with Niese here.
Better player three years from now Bogaerts or Machado?
For fantasy purposes, Manny.
Best replacement for Zimmermann: Prado, Moustakas, Castallenos, Plouffe?
I'd take Trevor first of that group.
Is Taijuan Walker going to be worth a darn when he FINALLY starts pitching or have I been waiting in vain?
Someone's letting the rain get to him...
i am hurting for DHs in a bad way. been rolling with Callaspo but he's been cooling. like DeJesus or Pinto more ROS?
Josmil for me.
Insert Machado right away, or do you wait and see?
I have no issue inserting hitters back into action as soon as they're activated from DL. Worst case scenario is 0-for-5? That doesn't kill your team the way a SP put back in your lineup too soon might do with a 1 IP, 8 ER disaster.
Coco Crisp or Victorino ROS? Who do you have higher?
Thoughts on Napoli? Sell or keep?
I see no reason to sell here.
Replacements if Kipnis goes to DL: Espinosa, Gyorko, Infante, J. Weeks, Walker
Espinosa or Gyorko. Should know something in next 24 hours.
RE:ROS: Mesoraco, Gattis, Miguel Montero, or Salty? you say Meso but Karabell says its safe to drop him. What do you know that he doesn't?
Depends on the context of the question. Is it *safe* to drop Mesoraco with lots of other options on the wire at C? Yes. But ROS is more than just next 2-3 weeks. In that context, I think Mesoraco will end up with most value.
That's all the time we have for today, gang. Thanks to all who took part. I'm on Twitter (@ajmass) for those I didn't get to. Also, please consider purchasing "Yes It's Hot in Here" - really proud of it. Until the next time... the tribe has spoken!
