It's the fastest hour in golf! Tiger chips, JB Wins, Stacy dominates, and Wie charges. LOTS going on this week here in Jax too... Course closed Monday to everyone but players and caddies but 3 GREENS are closed to them!! This is gonna be quick... BRING IT!!
Alright, MC. What tipped you off to J.B. Holmes being a player back on the rise? You called it several weeks ago that he was going to win soon...said to put money on it. Color me impressed.
Thanks for the acknowledgement and remembering I put you on him (hope you made some money in Vegas). Sometimes in golf you can kind of see guys trending in a good direction and I remember watching him hit golf balls on a range somewhere thinking he was gonna win soon.
Michael H- OK.....even a broken clock is right twice a day.
You keep broken clocks in your house?
I owe you a dinner. Been riding JB Holmes since you thru his name out there a couple weeks back. Paid off this weekend at a nice 70-1. Also had the Derby exacta for a nice weekend$!
Meet you in Vegas after the Women's US Open!
Michael.... Amazing to see JB Holmes back at the top after what happened to him back in 2011... then the struggles to even get his game back afterwards... good for him.
It was great to see but also shows how strong the desire to get back can be for some. A LOT of hard work.
Hey MC! I have been paying more attention to the LPGA this year, in part because you have been talking about it more. I know it isn't exactly a big page-hit generator on the site here, but ESPN could at least make the leaderboard feature on the site look the same as the PGA one. The Women's scoreboard shows the player's name and total score in relation to par for the whole week. The Men's shows their country of origin, score in relation to par, their score from every round and the money they won. A lot of that information would be beneficial to someone looking at the LPGA board who wants to learn a little more about the players and the game. I know you have been pushing to help grow the ladies' game, so maybe you could pass this on! Thanks for chatting.
Great idea! I know the bosses read this chat so now they'll see your idea too. ;)
Sawgrass is your backyard, correct? Have you been over to see it lately, and if so are the greens as bad as they are reporting?
Let's just say the caddies I talked to today said the tour better hope there aren't any blimp shots of the greens. Three greens are closed to THE PLAYERS today and maybe tomorrow... #4, 11, and 12
Great post on Tiger's web-site, seemd to offer more than in the past...and seemed to put to rest rumors he and Foley are done - do you think that is the right move - keeping Foley?
You can thank Bob Harig for that one. But I think keeping Foley is definitely the right move for Tiger. Has Foley ever gotten to work with a healthy Tiger? Should he have that chance? Just asking.
Michael, someone asked Bob Harig the other day who he likes watching on the range and he said Tiger. Who do you enjoy watching on the range? Who's the most impressive on the range?
I would never get tired of watching Adam Scott and Zach Johnson work on the range. Two opposite types and to see them work... magic, because of how different they are.
MC... Phil looked great on Saturday and then Phil being Phil on Sunday...What should we expect from him leading into the US Open next month
More of the same. Inconsistent but building towards Pinehurst
Was Phil ever able to get a tee time at Pinehurst? I had heard he had been turned down on three separate occasions
I'm gonna do a video about that this week and talk to some guys who are already in the US Open to find out if they had the same issues.
Is Anthony Kim's professional golf career over?
I honestly don't know but I hope not.
How close do you think Rory is to getting back to his 2012 form? In your opinion, is golf better with one dominant player that everyone chases weekly or do you think a new winner every week is good for the game/TV ratings?
Rory isn't as close as he says. First he needs to find a way to turn that 75-76 round into a 70 round and he hasn't done that in a while. But he'll be right by the Open Championship. One dominant force is better for everything.
Hey MC, thanks as always for chatting. Yesterday I was on the 17th tee with a possibility for a career round and totally crapped the bed on the last two. Still a solid round, but oh what could have been! What would you say to your 'boss' if he needs to finish off his round solidly and seems a little shaky?
At the end of a good run I always make sure my boss saw me with the same expression as he did on the first hole. As soon as you start thinking ahead bad things happen. It's cliche' but very true, stay in the moment. Add the score at the end.
Love your weekly chat! I usually don't pay much attention to the money the pros make on tour, this week the difference tied for second with Jim Furyk and third place alone was allot of money,I can't imagine standing over a put on 18 with kind of money on the line or do the pros just not bother with that kind of presure
Most guys don't think about the money til afterwards. Some guys will think about what the "place" means like Garrigus at the US Open a few years ago. I did have one guy tell me he had to make the cut cause he needed the money. I yelled at him and we finished top ten.
Im going to the Players this week and was wondering if the other 15 greens are in good shape. All you hear is 3 are bad. A real shame this is such a big event $$$
Unfortunately almost all the greens are not where the tour would like them.
Michael if Tiger is healthy for the Ryder Cup, do you see him as a Captain's pick assuming he does not qualify based on points?
Can you see Tom Watson not picking him if they talk and Tiger says he's good to go?
@Victor-Top notch athletes like myself pee excellence! That's the differance
And apparently top notch athletes like yourself can't spell difference or maybe you're typing with a twang?! HAHA
Hey MC, Is there someplace we can check a players schedule and see where he is committed to play in the coming weeks?
Unless the guy has his own website, not really. Guys have until the Friday the week before to commit to an event.
Hey MC, Have you ever played the TPC? How did you do on 17?
I've played here many times.
Best shot I ever hit on 17th was when a cameraman was laying 10 feet in front of me. Most nervous I've ever been over a tee shot in front of about 500 people. Hit it to 15 feet, 8 iron.
Better views 16th in Scottsdale or 17 at TPC?
Man that is a tough one! 17th here is weather dependent so I'd say by consistency Scottsdale wins.
TPC Sawgrass is about 400$ for the everyday golfer right?
yeah but you can find deals.
absolute sleeper for this week..... I like Cink or Freddy Jacobson.
picks will be out Wednesday!
What's your handicap? Aren't most caddies pretty good?
My hcp is 10 but I've been playing like an 18 lately. And caddies range from great former tour pros to guys who are worse than 25 hcp's. Doesn't take a great player to be a great caddie.
Plenty of tour pros have bee to Pinehurst. Phil's issue isn't that he can't get a tee time (as he admitted) it's that he wants to go slow and be undisturbed (understandably), so he wants the course closed. At a public course usga isn't going to do that till closer to the us open. Same every time it goes to a public place.
Those words aren't taught until after 4th grade. I was already on the path to greatness by then, so I quit
My friend, I type with two fingers so I'm throwing stones in a glass house!
MC! LPGA question: Can you explain to me why the caddies are allowed to stand behind their players before every shot to help line things up? It seems most of the players are good enough not to need that. P.S. You said you might try to cover a couple of LPGA events- come to Portland for the former Safeway Classic- now just being called the Portland Classic. I plan to marshal again.
Caddies can do that on the PGA Tour as well it's just rarely done because these guys like to shape the balls so much more. Don't know which events I'll get to do after the Women's US Open.
Heard that!! I'm WAAAY better on the bag than holding a club
MC - welcome to the new boring world of tiger-less golf. With a new mediocre player winning every week, I can barely stand to watch. Signed, True Golf Fan
You obviously didn't watch if you call what happened last week mediocre.
Stacy Lewis, Lexi and Wei looks like some good battles this and year a long time to come for the LPGA
I'm telling you, jump on the LPGA Tour NOW and you'll be tenfold ahead of everyone else when it explodes later this summer.
Whats the hardest part of being a caddy? Knowing your player? Figuring distances? Reading greens when asked?
Hardest part is know when to be quiet and when to speak up. That comes with being able to read people. Sometimes players need to steam in silence and sometimes players need a slap back to reality and the trick is knowing when each is needed.
Atleast when you're handing out clubs and the shot doesn't work you can just tell your player that he sucks, and not have to live through the agony yourself
You DO have to live with the agony... in your wallet and after telling a player he/she sucks you may just be out of work.
Do you think there's a reasonable chance that during Tigers lay off, being with his kids, getting involved in their sports, he could be thinking that is it worth it going to the pain if it happens again? He's already top 2 of all time ( I know that he will still play of course)
If you're asking if I think Tiger would shut it down for good I say there's no way if a doctor tells him he can play he doesn't play. It's in his DNA to compete and if he can, he will. What's his ultimate goal? He hasn't reached it yet.
I hope Tiger never comes back to the PGA Tour. At this point in his career, he is completely overrated, completely over covered, and has no chance of winning another major.
So those 5 wins last year... overatted? C'MON MAN!
Is it worth 450$ to have an all day lesson with Stan Utley?
Depends. If you got that kinda money, then yeah sure. But if it means something else important like a family trip gets nixed then HELL NO.
Can you elaborate a little on the greens at TPC? Are they similar to greens that were recently aerated/reseeded?
No, they're more like greens that have been infected by nematodes. Lots of areas that will be spray painted green dirt.. lots of patchwork areas.
Greens will look like a bald old mans head... lots of liver spots
Have you played TPC Scottsdale? Can you compare Sawgrass to Scottsdale?
COMPLETELY different tracks.
MC, parity in golf sucks, and always has, but feels especially miz after nearly two decades of Tiger. As we experience this most recent taste of tigerless golf, it really reminds you of how much he spoiled us. I expect the popularity of golf to drastically plummet following Tiger's retirement, and unfortutanely, because of his health issues, that could be sooner rather than later. I hope you have a backup career in mind!
Already working on it. "WELCOME TO WALMART! Would you like a cart or basket?"
Wow Lee.... bitter much? Anyone who says he has "no chance of winning another major" is pretty silly.
@Lee...don't write in again, your post was the dumbest here in a while
That was tame, you should see the stuff I can't post.
So what exactly caused the problems to the greens at Sawgrass in the first place? Was it recent so there wasn't enough time to find a solution?
Bad winter and then they messed up with application of chemicals.
I am playing Bandon Dunes in two weeks and going to attempt 36 in one day.....What do you suggest is more important for a fat overweight middle aged guy? Oxygen? A big enough Caddy to help carry me?
Honestly the trick will be to eat REALLY healthy before and during the rounds. You'll be surprised what you have left ine the tank on the final nine holes TRUST ME! Apples and Bananas with Gatorade or find some Amino Vital
Do you have a favorite course in Arizona MC?
Whisper Rock, then Troon
I've never been a fan of Tiger the man. But what he has meant to the game of golf is immeasurable. The game is far better with him than without him. Any claim to the contrary has no basis. With that said, MC, what are your thoughts on Tiger ditching Foley? Tiger was multidimensional with Butch. Just not the case anymore, and appears far too reliant on the cut. Is it too late for him to ditch Foley or does he have to just push all in at this point?
Foley has nothing to do with Tiger's health and mental prowess on game day. Coaches are like horse trainers, they don't run or ride on raceday.
You think when Tiger gets older, you think he will regret how he treated fans at golf tournaments?
I doubt it. And he's gotten much better in recent years with the fans. I expect that to continue.
MC, as a Caddie do you prefer a hat or a visor?
As a bald guy a hat is what works best for me.
Even if the golfer doesn't look at leaderboards, I assume the caddie has to know so he knows where his guy is at?
As a Georgia Tech grad I'm glad to see so many alums be successful on tour: Kuchar, Cink, Castro, Tringale, etc. Any thoughts on the possibility of ever seeing David Duval return to his old form?
If you mean getting back to OWGR #1, no. But if you mean can he find a way to win a tournament again... yeah, I believe he can.
I suggest playing The Boulders next time youre here if you can MC
If you're treating I'm playing! HAHA
Is Rory overrated?
He's 25! Let's wait til he's 30 and see how many events he's won before going there.
Who would win more majors? Tiger in jacks era or Jack in Tigers era? Jack had the greater players but Tiger had more parity in his
Who's equipment? And Tiger's era has better players... those are Jacks words.
Don't forget the young Bulldog contingent- Henley, Swafford, Kirk, English, Harman (and Bubba don't count)...
My week is ruined MC... I missed the chat... #worksux
It's ok, I'll be here next week too! Same Bat Time, same Bat Channel. PLUS... this week I'll be dropping videos everyday on our page! So check em out. Have a great week everyone. Your caddie... MC
