Good morning, gang! We've got 60 minutes of fantasy chattage up ahead. Second cup of coffee in hand! Let's get the mascot on the field and get this game started...
Who will be the next closer in Baltimore
Assuming there's a change at all, I think the next in line is O'Day.
Am I for real? Trade or ride it out?
Some regression from that amazing start was always to be expected. I think he's for real to an extent - but perhaps will end up playing a little less once Cuddyer is back, which will in turn keep the stats looking better than if he played every day. Trade depends on what you get back.
How about me? Am I for real?
Because of the SB value, yes. But there's a diminishing returns there in roto.
Mets closer for ros?
I think it will eventually be Mejia, though there's a revolving door up ahead for some time.
How can I get rid of Jose Fernandez now? I don't want to release him, but I don't know what I can get for him,
All comes down to your roster size and how long you can stash him before you need the spot. If you have a chance to win this season, you make a move at some point.
I keep hearing about a Super 2 date....how does that work? Is there a set date in June, or does it fluctuate dependent on the player?(If so, is there anyway for fans to figure out that date?)
Super 2 is a categorization based on a percentage of players with a given amount of service time. In other words, the more prospects get called up to make debuts, the sooner that date arrives in a given year. But the percentage was increased this season, so odds are it comes later than in the past.
Haven't heard anything about Syndergaard lately, when can we expect him in NY?
With Montero and de Grom called up, expect the Mets to wait a bit on Noah. No need to call up all three. Barring more injuries, I'd say July.
With Wieters hurt, I need a catcher. Ramos or Rosario?
Wilin for me.
Jordan Zimmermann or Cole Hamels ROS?
I'll go with Jordan.
Time to cut ways with Jake Peavy in a roto league with K/BB as a category?
While it's somewhat dependent on what you replace him with, I'd say you probably want to move on.
Todd Frazier or Chase Headley?
I'm on Team Todd here.
You concerned with Trout's K-rate this Spring? It's begun to affect his average, power numbers and steals (can't steal 1B). What's up with him?
Honestly not concerned. Even with the struggles you're outlining, he's been the No. 16 hitter in terms of fantasy value thus far. Hard to quibble.
Will Beltran owners be happy by season's end?
Happier than today? Yes. Happy? Color me skeptical.
Lyles for real?
Only to a point. Not going to finish with a Tanaka-like perfect record. Always like to see a K/BB rate over 2.5.
Time to drop Domonic Brown? Any chance he finishes above 15 homers .250 BA this year?
My guess would be no. Certainly the ballpark he plays in -- assuming he remains in the lineup -- helps power numbers. But, I'm not sure he continues to get ABs once Ruf is healthy.
Rank these OF for me: Carl Crawford, Dexter Fowler, Dayan Viciedo
Viciedo, Carl, Dexter
ROS Pojnts league - Carpenter or Kipnis ROS, Thanks
Assuming Kipnis's oblique doesn't hold him back, I'm with him.
Trout may be no. 16 but EVERYONE drafted him to be the no. 1 player (a tier above the rest with Cabrera) so isn't the fact that he is no.,16 with no signs of letting off the Ks reason to worry?
Short answer is no. Firstly, once the season starts it doesn't matter where you drafted a player. Some do better, some do worse. Not complaining over having the No. 16 player. Ever. Now, if you think the K-rate means ROS he starts to slide down a ton - my point is that the rate would have to drastically increase for him to see a statistical slide like that. The K's aren't really hurting his game so far.
Please rank Bogaerts, Lowrie, Simmons, Zobrist ROS.
Lowrie, Simmons, Zobrist, Bogaerts - assuming Ben has no issues with his thumb beyond a potential two-week DL stint.
Better O to own: Machado or Markakis?
One and done league, Markakis.
Which SS do you like for the rest of the year, Simmons or Segura?
I like Andrelton.
Which one are you dropping of these four? Jim Johnson, Ernesto Frieri, Mark Melancon, Trevor Rosenthal. Will any keep or solidify their role?
I'd drop Johnson. Grilli close to coming back, so if saves are all that matters, perhaps Melancon loses value in that regard soon - but his peripherals are still far better than JJ and Ernesto.
Think I can stay in rotation and pitch well?
It's one game. Need to see a lot more before making that kind of call. That said, I don't see Zona turning to anyone else for at least a few weeks...
Gio or Sonny ROS
Really, really close. Forced to choose, I give slightest of edge to Gonzalez.
Great chat as always!Desperate for hitting, if I trade Tanaka, is the sky the limit on who I can ask for in return? Thanks so much!
You should always ask for the sky in any trade... no reason to ever request the lowest amount you'd consider accepting -- that's lousy negotiation tactics. But so far, Tanaka has been No. 1 SP, so you'd better not deal him for spare parts.
I've been riding Michael Brantley and just took a flyer on Solarte. At what point do the "hot starts" become possible breakouts. Are there underlying stats that make you think it's just smoke and mirrors?
I think you need to look at things like contact rate and swinging at pitches in/out the strike zone, for starters. There's no one true metric for judging, but I think both will be able to be strong fantasy players going forward.
Would you rather have RA Dickey or Matt Latos ROS?
Hesitantly, I'll go with Latos.
Rondon>Doolittle>J Smith sound right?
I'm not all that high on Rondon. I'd go Sean> Joe> Hector myself.
What is the best way to bring up a young pitcher? Looks like Gausman was botched and Bauer is a missed opportunity...
I don't think we really know - and there's no one right way to do it. Kid glove treatment clearly won't prevent TJ surgeries from cropping up, and the yo-yo that some pitchers get placed on doesn't yield perfect results either.
Eovaldi or AJ Burnett?
Not even close. Nate.
in need of a 2B and my league knows it. Ive been offered Kinsler for my A Jones. Is this fair or do you think im selling low?
Especially given the fact you say teams may be trying to lowball you, I think this is more than fair.
Quick Hitter... Donaldson or Beltre ROS
I'll go with JD here.
If Hunter loses the job in Baltimore, with no other "strong" candidates won't it just be a matter of time until he gets it back?
For one, not sure he definitely loses it -- but we'll see the next time the O's have a save chance who Buck turns to. Because of who the manager is, I do tend to think Hunter will still be getting save chances in September.
This is getting to be a bit ridiculous, don't you think?
The winlessness isn't anything you can control, Shark. I still think it makes a LOT of sense for Colorado to come calling -- and at least there, you'll get run support.
Dallas Keuchel or Vargas ROS?
I'm actually a big DK fan here.
better stash. Alex Guerrero, Kris Bryant or Jon Singleton
This year only? Guerrero. Long-term? I'm very optimistic on Bryant.
Last night aside... K-Rod would you be buying or selling?
Everyone is entitled to a bad night or two... No way I'm selling at this point.
Can I keep this up or should my owners sell high now?
I think this is exactly what we should be expecting from Stanton.
Yelich or Myers going forward? Wil has disappointed so far. Leonys Martin is also available.
I'll go with Yelich here. No interest in Leonys at all.
Drop CC or keep? Need to pick up a stream pitcher for tomorrow
Just performance-wise you could make an argument for CC being a streaming option only these days. Throw in the news re: knee? I think you can very easily justify cutting him at this point.
Simple question Do you expect Allen Craig & Prince to pick it up?
To some degree, yes for both -- but Prince sooner than AC.
Is Garrett Richards for real? What do you see him doing ROS. Was offered him for Yelich.
I think he's definitely a top-30 right now. Hard to compare apples to oranges without knowing the other side of the pitcher/OF equation -- which is how you should always evaluate trade offers, not just the 1-to-1. But, on the surface, I like the deal.
Danny Salazar has been dropped in every league I play in. I've picked him up for less than nothing. Good move? Turn around coming?
He's certainly worth more than nothing, so...
What is going on with Prado? Do I trade him or is his value just terrible right now?
His value is terrible right now. I think you know that. The question isn't *do* you trade him. It's *can* you trade him. What will anyone give you in return?
Sell high on D. Ortiz? Age has to catch up eventually....doesn't it?
I mean, sure. Not too many senior citizens in the league right now. But, that said, no reason to think bottom drops out on Papi in 2014.
That's all the time I've got for today, guys. There's twitter for those I could not get to (@ajmass) and I do try to answer as many as I can there as well. If you haven't picked up a copy of my book "Yes It's Hot in Here" what are you waiting for? It's good. It's fun. It's available at all the usual places. And thanks. Until the next time, the tribe has spoken. It's time for me to go.
