Hey folks, in the meantime, check out Seth's latest column on Donovan's Super Bowl performance ... http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs04/news/story?id=1986008
Hey, everyone. Thanks for being here. I'm a little early, for once, so let's start with the questions.
Drew Brees, does he stay with San Diego? Do they put the tag on him? What happens to Rivers if they do? If he doesnt stay with San Diego what team does he get traded to and who does San Diego get?
Obviously, the Chargers are in a tough position. What I'm hearing is that he will be shopped for a trade after being franchised. Is that the right call? I'm not sure. I know that it puts a lot of pressure on Rivers. Plus, Tomlinson won't be happy if Brees is gone. If Brees is traded, I see Dallas, maybe Cleveland or Green Bay depending on what Favre does.
Seth, don't I need to bring in Randy Moss to get my team to the next level and compete with the best in the NFL, and if I do, what do I have to give up?
Gee, Terry, thanks for checking in. Shouldn't you be at Hofstra and not NJ? Anyway, I'd stay away from Moss. You've got a good group of WRs. Spend the money on keeping Jordan, upgrading on D, and praying that Pennington's shoulder comes back as good as new and on time for the season to start.
Can I win with Patrick Ramsey as my QB?
Yes, Joe. But I think he has to get on the same page with the O-line and WRs so that the ball is out of his hands quickly. Most of his mistakes happen when he has to hold the ball longer than he wants.
Do you think the steelers could make it to the big game next year?
Yes. I guess. I mean, if Big Ben doesn't have foot/thumb/head issues, they might have gone this year. I know that they'll have to study the Pats O more this offseason so the Steelers D doesn't get bent like it did.
Whats the chances seattle keeping shawn alexander???
Not great. Too many holes to fill and the coaching staff's judgement of Alexander's worth and Alexander's own opinion are not close.
Could the Vikings sign Jerry Rice to mentor Randy and keep him focused?
No. Moss is way beyond whatever Jerry Rice could tell him. Randy wouldn't listen anyway.
Will Jerry Porter and Charles Woodson be with the Raiders next year? If not where will they be?
I think neither. Woodson will have to be willing to take a huge pay cut, and I doubt he will. Many in the Raiders have seen him as overrated for years, and the fact that he had a sloppy year this year -- when he was franchised -- doesn't help. Porter's got a lot of upside but will probably get an offer too high for a guy whose career high in receptions is 64, and who has never had a 1,000-yard season.
what do you expect the Bills to do with Bledsoe? If he is traded where do you think he will go?
Unless he's willing to redo his deal again, I think he's gone. He has simply not performed well, despite having good talent around him, for the past season and a half. It's a sad turn his career has taken for a player as prolific as he was in the early 90s.
How far away are the lions from a wildcard spot?
A 2:1 TD/INT ratio from Harrington. And a defense that gives up fewer than 300 points.
So how do my Birds look in their upcoming effort to make run number five?
They have to stay motivated. They have to become a better running team. Some depth for their LBs would help.
Seth, what do you think the Ravens need more? A QB or WR?
A wide receiver.
Am I crazy to think the Bears can win the NFC North if they improve at LT and add two new WR? Their defense is young and solid and will only get better next year without all of the injuries.
Yes, you are very crazy, Goose. Of course, that is implied by you calling yourself Goose. I think the Bears need a year of seasoning in a new offense before the playoffs -- or a North title -- can be brought up without people thinking you've been drinking.
Seth, Bronos, on the way up or on the way down?
Down. A QB who's made a career out of throwing picks; a receiving corps that's aging and inconsistent; a defense that ranks plays well everywhere but Indianapolis; and a coach who's no longer nicknamed the Mastermind. Signing Griese to a $12M bonus was the start of the end.
will eli look like his brother next year
Yes. His stat line won't though.
The Chonicle reported this morning that the Niners are currently exploring a deal that would send the #1 pick and Julius over to the Vikings for Moss. Although this sounds like a good trade, do you think we should bite?
I don't think it's a good idea. If we've learned anything from New England, it's that you stay away from expensive players and fill those voids with hungrier guys. And you especially stay away from expensive headaches like Moss.
What's the big deal about Eric Mangini? How much of a coup would it be for Cleveland to snag him?
He's very sharp. Very detailed. Helped design schemes that limited the Colts to 3 points. The buzz around him is substantial. I can't remember an assistant -- not even a coordinator -- who's gotten so much attention.
WHY DID KARL MALONE RETIRE
Because he moved like a 67 Dodge Dart last year. He had no choice. Plus we'd have Vanessa-gate when he and Kobe played.
What do the Rams need more, DL, LB, or DBs
Even though you're a Jawhawk I will answer your question. All the above. Martz the GM needs to make life easier on Martz the coach. His d-line is a mess.
Do you think Sunday will be the last day we see Bettis in a football uniform?
I think so. The best power back since Jim Brown, a future Hall of Famer, I think will be done.
Thanks for all your questions. I'll be back soon.
