Rank 'Em: Backup QBs

Who is this year's Matt Cassel?

Last season, the New England Patriots seemed all set at quarterback. Future Hall of Famer Tom Brady was coming off a record-breaking season, and the majority of his offense remained intact. New England's outlook was promising.

That was true until Brady suffered a season-ending leg injury barely 10 minutes into his first game. The Patriots had to rely on untested backup Matt Cassel.

Though they barely missed the playoffs, Cassel's success illustrated just how important a good backup quarterback can be in today's game. This was made even more evident when Cassel, traded to the Kansas City Chiefs in the offseason, suffered a MCL strain over the weekend, which could result in two to four weeks on the bench.

There are several big names on this year's list of backups, but who among them would give his team the best chance to win if its main signal-caller went down?
