Rafael Nadal slams way to No. 1

7/11/2013

Rafael Nadal winning the French Open? That's not exactly new. And that's what was so special about the Spaniard's run at Roland Garros. By beating countryman David Ferrer -- after an epic battle with Novak Djokovic in the semis -- Nadal went from the all-time winningest male tennis player in Paris to the only man to own eight of the same grand slam titles. He also moved up to 12 in his career, and has taken a major championship in each of the past nine years.

LeBron James' scoring numbers aren't too special so far in the NBA Finals. But by leading the Heat on a 33-5 run in the second half of Game 2 -- featuring one of the King's most memorable plays -- James sent Miami to Texas with a chance to steal back home court. Back on the clay court, meanwhile, Serena Williams added another major to her ever-increasing tally -- at a place where she suffered a colossal defeat just one year earlier.
