Kournikova's father tired of wedding rumors

NEW YORK -- Anna Kournikova has not married despite reports to the contrary, her agent and her father both said Monday.

The London tabloid newspaper The Sun reported on Monday that Kournikova, 20, had secretly married 31-year-old fellow Russian Sergei Fedorov, a forward for the NHL's Detroit Red Wings, in Moscow.

But Phil de Picciotto, president of Octagon Athlete Representation, said in a statement issued from his office in McLean, Virginia: "The rumors are untrue and we will not justify them with any further comment."

Earlier, Kournikova's father had said he was fed up with all the rumors.

"To be honest with you I am sick and tired with the calls about her marriage, last year it was (Pavel) Bure, now it's Fedorov," Sergei Kournikov told Reuters by telephone on Monday.

"Anna is in Florida at the moment and has begun training. Only yesterday I spoke with her on the phone and I think she would be very surprised to hear about this latest rumor," he said.

"She hasn't been in Moscow since last year's Kremlin Cup (tennis tournament) in November."

The Sun quoted Fedorov's mother Natalya as saying: "It was a lovely ceremony. I am very happy to be Anna's mother-in-law."

When told about the quote, the tennis player's father said: "I don't know how Fedorov's mother would say anything about a marriage of my daughter because as far as I know she lives in Detroit."

Kournikova has been out of action since February with a stress fracture of her left foot.

Last year, The Mirror, another British tabloid newspaper, said that Kournikova was engaged to another Russian hockey star Pavel Bure, the two-time NHL scoring leader who plays for the Florida Panthers. Both later denied the report.
