Kournikova says she's not married

SAN DIEGO, Aug 1 -- Russian tennis star Anna Kournikova on Wednesday flatly denied reports that she had recently married Detroit Red Wings hockey star Sergei Fedorov.

In a statement that appears on her website, www.sports.lycos.com/Anna, the glamorous 20-year-old said: "While I don't typically comment on my personal life, let me confirm once again that I am not married.

"I can't be any clearer on this subject and I hope the rumours will stop."

The London tabloid newspaper The Sun reported last month that Kournikova had secretly married Fedorov in Moscow.

Although Kournikova was sporting a large diamond ring that appeared to lend some credibility to the rumors, a source from Kournikova's camp told Reuters that she is not engaged to Fedorov and has been wearing the same ring for the past year and a half.

Kournikova lost to Nicole Pratt at the $750,000 Acura Classic on Tuesday on her comeback after six months off the tour after sustaining a stress fracture to her left foot.
