Rios and Norman advance today in Heineken Open semifinals

SHANGHAI, China (Ticker) -- Second seed Magnus Norman of Sweden seeks his ATP Tour-leading fifth title of the season on Sunday when he squares off against top-seeded Marcelo Rios of Chile in the final of the $325,000 Heineken Open.

Norman is tied with Americans Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras for the lead with four titles apiece. The 23-year-old Swede won tournaments in Long Island, Orlando, Stuttgart, and Umag.

Before this season, Norman had never won more than one tournament crown in any year and looks for his seventh career title on Sunday after defeating sixth seed and defending champion Michael Chang of the United States, 0-6, 6-4, 6-2, in today's semifinals.

Rios advanced to his fourth final of the season with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over fifth seed Jonas Bjorkman of Sweden. On Sunday, he will try to capture his third title of the year and his first since claiming the International Raiffeisen Grand Prix in Austria in May. Earlier that month, he won the German Open.

A winner of 15 career titles -- two coming in Asia, Rios jumped out to a 4-0 lead in today's match before Bjorkman got a break back and pulled within 4-3. However, Rios held serve thereafter to close out the set.

The 23-year-old Rios opened the second set with a break of serve and snatched Bjorkman's serve twice more to notch his 40th match win of the year.

Norman had a tougher time of it with Chang, needing a little more than two hours to get past the feisty American. He won 78 percent of his first-service points and converted 3-of-9 break chances.

First prize is $46,000.
