Sharapova, currently second in the world rankings, was not in Friday's draw for the China Open beginning Saturday in Beijing.
She twisted her left ankle while serving in the first set of Thursday's quarterfinal against Petra Kvitova. Sharapova said on her official website that the "good news is that the MRI showed no big damage in the ankle."
She said she "will do my best to recover for Istanbul," which hosts the WTA Championships beginning Oct. 25.
