MEN
Open is shut: Safin slams Pete
Marat Safin might have given the world a preview of the new order in men's tennis with his 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 blowout of Pete Sampras in Sunday's Open final. Safin handed Sampras only his third defeat in 16 Grand Slam finals.

WOMEN
Grand finale for Venus
Venus Williams kept her streak alive and proved Saturday she is the world's best women's player. Behind a huge serve, Venus beat Lindsay Davenport 6-4, 7-5 for her second straight Grand Slam title.

Marat Safin, 20, became the youngest Open champion since Pete Sampras in 1990.
