Damir Dokic ejected for abusive behavior

SportsTicker

NEW YORK -- Damir Dokic, the father of 17-year-old Australian tennis player Jelena Dokic, was ordered off the grounds at the National Tennis Center on Wednesday for abusive behavior in the U.S. Open player lounge.

U.S. Open Tournament Director Jay Snyder said Damir Dokic, who has a history of erratic and abusive behavior at major tennis events, will not be allowed back on the grounds for the remainder of the tournament, which runs through Sept. 10.

Dokic ran into problems at Wimbledon this year when he wrapped a British flag around himself and began shouting at spectators and later smashed a journalist's cell phone. He was ejected from a tournament in England just before the 1999 Wimbledon Championships for erratic behavior.

Dokic was born in Serbia and emigrated to Australia in 1994. His daughter, considered one of the most promising young players in women's tennis, did not win a match from Wimbledon until a first-round victory over Anna Smashnova at the U.S. Open and has seen her ranking drop to 43rd in the world.
