The basic elements of football started at Penn's Franklin Field, Harvard Stadium and the Yale Bowl – three of our four oldest stadiums. Today they stand as monuments to the past, having essentially shaped college football and college athletics on the whole as we know them.

Franklin Field

Franklin Field is home to many famous firsts, including the first scoreboard (1895) and the first college football radio broadcast (1922). In 1911, Penn's football team was the first in the country to use numbers on its jerseys. (Photo by Tim Flynn/Penn Athletic Communications)
