Joe Louis Arena, often referred to as "The Joe," opened in 1979 and was named after boxing legend Joe Louis. Home of the Detroit Red Wings for nearly 30 years, Joe Louis Arena houses 67 suites, five super suites and the exclusive Comerica Bank Legends Club and members only Olympia Club. Paying homage to its rich hockey history, "The Joe" welcomes guests through an exclusive Gordie Howe entrance, featuring three larger-than-life bronze statues of Red Wings legends Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay and Alex Delvecchio. Over the years Joe Louis Arena has played host to a variety of musical artists, exclusive concerts, ice shows, college hockey and occasionally hosted the NBA Detroit Pistons and WNBA Detroit Shock. It is one of three NHL arenas without a corporate sponsorship name.
