History: Baseball in Cleveland is one of the city's oldest traditions, dating to 1869. After buying the Indians in 1986, owners Richard Jacobs and his late brother David committed to building a winning formula in Cleveland. This plan included creating a world-class, baseball-only ballpark. The owners' vision became a reality in 1994, when Progressive Field (formerly known as Jacobs Field) opened. This urban ballpark is located within the physical boundaries of three main streets in downtown Cleveland. Progressive Field has already provided the city with many great memories, including the Indians' clinching their first division title Sept. 8, 1995, and Tony Pena's game winning-homer in the 13th inning in Game 1 of the Division Series against Boston on Oct. 3, 1995, to give the Tribe its first postseason win since Oct. 11, 1948. The playing field is a natural-grass blend of Kentucky bluegrass. Lawrence Dolan and family trusts purchased the team in 2001 and continue to upgrade the ballpark, with features like Heritage Park, located behind center field, and the group party deck overlooking right field.

Soak up the scene:
For most of its existence this place was known as Jacobs Field, or The Jake, and it remains a great place to catch a game. Tribe fans no longer sell it out every game like they did from 1995-2000, but they're still a dedicated bunch. Even if the game doesn't go well there are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame + Museum, to help you happily kill the rest of the day. Kids:
Children ages 2 and younger are admitted free, but must sit on a parents lap. Young children attending Indians games may obtain a free ID wristband personalized with their seat location, enabling Guest Service Representatives to return lost children to their seat. Wristbands are available at Guest Services during all home games.

General:
Cameras are permitted if not obstructing fans view. Recording devices are not permitted. No bottles, cans or coolers. Food is permitted if brought in a plastic or paper bags, and small juice boxes are allowed. Persons using obscene or abusive language, or engaging in any other antisocial conduct offensive to those around them, will be asked by Indians personnel to cease this conduct. If the offensive conduct persists, those involved will be subject to ejection from the ballpark. Persons wearing indecent apparel imprinted with profane or abusive language while on ballpark grounds will be asked to remove or cover the garment. If the garment is not covered or removed, the person shall be subject to ejection.

Game tickets may be picked up at the Indians Ticket Office at Gate B from the time the gates open through the top of the fifth inning. Tickets will be released with proper identification only. Please drop off tickets prior to entering the ballpark.

Directions:
Progressive Field is a short walk from most of Cleveland's downtown garages and surface parking lots, and it is estimated that more than 30,000 parking spaces are available for most ballpark events. With an average of 2.5 persons per car, this means that the available spaces within a 15-minute walk are more than enough to accommodate all the fans attending simultaneous sellout events at Progressive Field and Quicken Loans Arena. In order to avoid getting stuck in traffic created by vehicles and pedestrians near Jacobs Field, choose an access route that avoids streets bordering the ballpark (Ontario, East 9th, Carnegie, Huron and Prospect), find a parking garage or surface lot a few blocks away, and walk. The Regional Transit Authority also offers convenient, affordable service to Jacobs Field. The Rapid Transit provides direct service to Tower City, only a 10-minute walk from Jacobs Field through RTA's Walkway to Gateway. DRIVING – From the east: Take I-90/Rt. 2 west; follow signs to Downtown, remain on Rt. 2 as I-90 curves away to left; exit at East 9th Street; left on E. 9th south to area parking. From the west: Take I-90/Rt. 2 East or west Shoreway from Lakewood; continue across Main Avenue bridge; exit right on West 6th Street to area parking. From the south: Take I-77 north and exit at E. 9th St. exit; follow signs to either E. 9th St. north or Ontario St. north to area parking. From the southwest: Take I-71 north to Inner Belt merge; continue on Inner Belt (I-90) to either Ontario Street or E. 9th St.; exit right onto Ontario north or E. 9th north to area parking. From the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport: Follow signs to I-71 north to Inner Belt merge; continue on Inner Belt (I-90) to either Ontario St. or E. 9th St.; exit right onto Ontario north or E. 9th north to area parking.

Parking:
Parking is available directly around the ballpark. The cost is approximately $6 to $8 per vehicle. Buses can only park on Erie or Summer. Parking garages: The ballpark parking garage is located between Progressive Field and Quicken Loans Arena. Enter off Huron Road or Eagle Avenue off Ontario Street. Cost: $10. Parking garage refund policy: Credit for cash parking will be given only if the game is cancelled before the first pitch. Once the game begins, no rain check credits will be given, even if the game is postponed before becoming an official game. Parking for bus and recreational vehicles: RV parking is available in the Tower City Center lot accessible from Huron Road. Charter buses can be parked at Carnegie and East 12th (Power Brake Lot).
