Sparks, Liberty swap guards picked in first round of 2006 draft

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Sparks acquired Sherill Baker
from the New York Liberty for Lisa Willis on Wednesday in a trade
involving guards picked in the first round of the 2006 WNBA draft.

The Liberty took Baker with the 12th overall pick last year. The
guard from Georgia averaged 7.4 points in 34 games as a rookie and
1.7 points in three games this season.

Willis was taken fifth overall last year. The guard from UCLA
averaged 4.6 points in 24 games as a rookie and 2.3 points in eight
games this season.

"We think the trade is good for both teams -- it will allow Lisa
to gain more playing time in New York and Sherill Baker is a
dynamic and explosive guard who I think everybody in Los Angeles
will be excited to watch play," Sparks general manager Penny Toler
said in a statement.
