Sky put away Mystics as Sylvia Fowles scores season-high 34

    Associated Press

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Sylvia Fowles scored a season-high 34 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to help the Chicago Sky snap a three-game losing streak with a 78-65 win over the Washington Mystics on Tuesday night.

Fowles, the WNBA's scoring leader at 21.9 points a game, scored 20-plus points for the eighth time in 11 games for Chicago (5-6). It was her third career game of 30 or more points.

Marissa Coleman had 14 points, and Matee Ajavon and Jasmine Thomas each added 11 for the Mystics (2-7), who have lost two straight and six of seven.

Epiphanny Prince added 14 points and Michelle Snow had 11 rebounds for Chicago, which shot 48.1 percent (26 of 54) and outrebounded the Mystics 38-27.

Fowles and Prince each had four points as Chicago opened a 15-12 first-quarter lead. Fowles added 10 in the second and the Sky used a 10-1 run midway through the quarter to take the lead for good on the way to a 35-24 halftime advantage.

Chicago's lead never dipped below double digits in the period after Fowles' three-point play at the 8-minute mark opened a 40-29 lead. By quarter's end, the lead was 54-41.

The Sky led by as many as 16 points early in the fourth before the Mystics cut the margin to 68-59 on Ta'Shia Phillips' bank shot with 3:08 to play. Washington never got any closer the rest of the way.

Snow's first-half blocked shot was the 321st of her career, good for ninth all-time in WNBA history.
