Joe Ciampi hired as Dream assistant
ATLANTA -- Former Auburn women's basketball coach Joe Ciampi is returning to the sideline.
The WNBA's Atlanta Dream announced Wednesday that Ciampi will serve as an assistant this season for head coach and general manager Marynell Meadors.
Ciampi spent 25 years at Auburn, leading the Tigers to three straight appearances in the NCAA championship game from 1988 to 1990.
In all, his teams made 16 NCAA appearances and won four Southeastern Conference championships.
He retired after the 2004 season with an overall record of 607-213, including two years at Army. Ciampi is a member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.
