MINNEAPOLIS -- Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi missed the team's season-opening 105-83 loss Sunday to the Minnesota Lynx because of a strained hip flexor.
Entering her ninth year in the league, Taurasi has led the league in scoring in five of the past six seasons, including four in a row. She averaged 21.6 points per game last year for the Mercury and was the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 5,000 career points.
Taurasi missed two games last season because of back spasms. She has played in at least 31 of the 34 regular-season games each year of her career.
