Natalie Achonwa (knee) to have MRI
Notre Dame coach Muffet McGraw says senior center Natalie Achonwa will have an MRI on Tuesday after injuring her left knee in the Fighting Irish's 88-69 win over Baylor on Monday night.
Achonwa went down holding her left knee during a game-changing run with just less than five minutes left in the contest. After a few moments, she got up with help and pointed to her teammates, telling them to get it done before heading to the locker room.
"It sucked the air right out of the room," McGraw said. "I don't know what it is yet. ... You hate to see a player go down like that."
The Irish followed Achonwa's advice and came away with the victory, and she joined them for the celebration on the court.
Achonwa, who had a double-double in the first half, had 19 points and 15 rebounds for the Irish (36-0). They take a perfect record into the Final Four for the first time, facing either Louisville or Maryland on Sunday night in Nashville, Tenn.
