SAN FRANCISCO -- For those folks watching Friday's skateboard vert preliminary on Pier 30, it may have felt as if they were watching a rerun of the X Trials that took place in Richmond, Va.
Two months ago, it was Tony Hawk, Andy Macdonald and Bucky Lasek finishing 1-2-3 in the vert.

Friday night, the trio repeated their May 7-9 Richmond performance with Hawk leading the way in qualifying with a score of 92.50, and Macdonald and Lasek tied for second with a score of 90.0.
"I was just trying to stay on until the buzzer hit," Hawk said in reference to his second-round run that included a flurry of varials, kick flips and 360's.
Hawk did not do a 720, apparently leaving that for Saturday night's final. He did land a 540 McTwist and left the ramp to a thundering ovation from the throngs packing the stands.
Hawk was also impressed by Macdonald, who moonlights as his vert doubles partner.
"Andy was sick," says Hawk. "I can't believe he hits that nollie front foot 540 every time."
Macdonald wasn't exactly happy with his performance.
"That first round was terrible," he says. "The second round was just all or nothing. I just had to stay on. And I did."
Hawk, Macdonald, and Lasek will be joined by seven other boarders, who made up the top 10 who moved on to the final. Bob Burnquist qualified fourth, followed by Sandro Dias. Lincoln Ueda, Tas Pappas, Colin McKay, Mike Frazier and Max Dufour also made it to the final.
