Senn takes home street gold
By Daniel Dodd, ESPN.com

SAN FRANCISCO -- Chris Senn and Rodil de Araujo Jr., know how to skate street style. They have ruled the skate street competition at the X Games since the inital event in 1995.

The two seemingly reached an agreement where Senn wold take the gold in the odd years ('95, '97) and Araujo the even ('96, '98).

Senn slaps his board's tail on the concrete block Monday during his gold-medal winning run.

Therefore, 1999 was Senn's turn to stand on the top of the podium, which is exactly what he did Monday afternoon after winning his third X Games street contest on Pier 30.

"I don't believe in that stuff," says Senn. "I'm just out here to have fun."

Nevertheless, Senn, who lives in the San Francisco area, had a solid first run in which he landed numerous kick flips and a front-side axel grind. He then ended the run on a front-side Smith grind.

He earned a score of 91.75 to catapult him into first place, where he stayed for the rest of the afternoon as no other skater in the competition earned a score of 90 or higher.

His second run was a far-less flashy performance, but he still managed to land a kick flip and grind to fakie.

He was about as relaxed as he could possibly be after his gold medal performance.

"It was fun," Senn said. "I just want to go home."

Despite his casual attitude, Senn is making his mark in the skating world in a big way. His latest victory not only makes him a three-time gold medalist in X Games competition, but he also has four other first-place finishes in the past two years.

Fellow Californians Pat Chinnita and Chad Fernandez took home the silver and bronze medals.
