Sweet stuff in the snow
ESPN.com

No one can say the X Games aren't sweet.

Along with plenty of hot chocolate, PowerBars and a strange red beverage being served at the Gap booth in the interactive village, there's a different kind of sugary liquid in play here at Winter X.

 sweet stuff
Roughly 416 pounds of this sweet stuff will be used during the Games.

In order to help guide athletes -- and cameras -- down the steep, snow-covered courses, bright blue snow cone syrup is used to mark berms, jumps and finish lines.

It's bubblegum flavor, in case you were wondering.

Another 500 pounds of blue chalk is being used to line the berms and jumps along the courses.

Some 416 pounds of the sickly-sweet syrup concentrate has been stockpiled at the venues, and at no time was it more desperately needed than Saturday during an all-day driving snowstorm.

Several times during the men's and women's Slopestyle event, course officials had to ask for more of the bright-blue stuff to be served up, as conditions steadily worsened.

If this weather continues Sunday for Day 4 of competition, somebody might have to make a run to the county fair.
